two words, Nick Symmonds
two words, Nick Symmonds
at 5 foot 10 won't make it in the NBA, won't be able to guard anyone!.....if he does...they (who he is guarding)will be the one's scoring 100 plus points!
Well comparing D3 basketball to track and cross country is a lot different since times don't lie. You can kind of see how D3 runners would stack up agianst D1 runners but that is almost impossible for most other sports except maybe golf.
Do yopu really think Grinell would be able to compete with a D1 school?
Symmonds and Lear were not good enough to go to a good D1 school out of high school. They developed nicely!

I'm choosing D3 over D1 with a 4:19/1:56
And the top DI recruits are beating you in the mile by 15 seconds. Good choice actually
Athletics at D1 schools are a business. Athletics at smaller schools are not. If you run 4:19 and 1:56 that's great however your not a priority for a D1 coach, while you are for a D3 coach...
How many H,S, All American's in any sport chose D3 over D1?
Symmonds ran 1:53 in high school. Yes, he could have run D1.

The only reason DIII schools have sports is so upper class preppy kids can say they are athletes.
...which leaves DI with illiterate, full time entertainers on steroids.
Go straight up to Nick Symmonds' face as say to him "D3 Sucks!!" I dare you.
I was a D3 runner as well, and ended up running sub 29 and sub 2:20 for the marathon later on.
Off the top of my head, Bruce Jenner (Graceland) and Edwin Moses (Morehouse) were D3 track athletes.
Hey Rocky, you just said it best you Ran your times Later on!
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
LOTS of crying from the babies on this thread!
Might as well throw my experience in:
I had multiple scholarship opportunities from crappy DI schools, but I ended up attending a DIII school. Wanna know why? It was a better school AND had a better cross country /track program.
Not sure why DIII doesn't count. Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in the NBA. Does the NBA not count? Peyton Manning threw 7 touchdowns in the NFL. Does the NFL not count?
Pretty impressive that he was able to score 109 points while wearing a diaper.
DIII at the national level is like a 2nd tier DI conference. So if you are an athlete who can compete at a big 10, Big East, ACC etc level (but not win), you might consider DIII. You won't pass up any money, and you could say, "I'm a national champion". You are unlikely to get much better than DIII champ level. You can count on 1 hand the number of DIII runners who were competitive nationally and made international teams - Symmonds, Rock, Paranya, McElligott. Many more who are qualifiers at the national level, but this is only 10-20 in any Championship cycle.
So DIII is by its nature conservative. You are very unlikely to go, "all the way". You do stand a good chance of improving, however. Much better than with a DI program. But the goal of any DI program is very different than DIII as a whole.
DIII Sports in general a low level athletics. Sure Symmonds is ONE example of a high level D111 athlete. However, in general the majority of D111 athletes suck

you're not very good with analogies.
the NBA and NFL are the highest levels of competition in their respective sport, in NCAA college athletics D1 is the highest level of competition and D3 is the lowest. Of course there are exceptional D3 teams and poor D1 teams in addition to standouts like Nick Symmonds, but overall D1 is where you go if you have real talent.
i bet you suck to
