According to Hester's Wikipedia in high school he ran the 100m in 10.42, the 800m in 1:54 and the mile in 4:09. No way this is real, right??

I believe the 100m time and possibly the 800m time. I don't believe the mile time without proof.
Would be least surprised by the 1:54, then the 10.42, but the 4:09 seems pretty unrealistic. If you told me the first two times I wouldn't be surprised, though.
No this is not for real. No on the 800m and mile
you all are gullible
Unless he under performed in the 800, an equal mile time to a 1:54 800m would be 4:13. So that 4:09 is complete BS, especially for a sprinter/jumper. The 4:09 was probably a 1500m.
the 1:54 is possible.
10.4

if he has decent endurance and put in effort this would not be out of the question at all. The only reason excellent high school sprinters dont run 1:55s off pure speed is because they dont run the 800 at all, and dont want to.
It Said He Qualified for the state meet in the 800 but didnt decide to run in state on his wiki page. Well look at his district meet his senior year only did 100,200, and LJ no Hester in a 800. http://fl.milesplit.com/meets/1660/results/3251
The 1:54 800 equates to about a 4:08 mile so it's possible.
How many people have run sub 10.5 and sub 4:10? It doesn't seem possible. I know that Hester is an amazing athlete and all that, but to be in that kind of shape for both of those events, and at the same time, seems a little unrealistic.
Of course he can do it, he is an ELITE athlete, just like Rupp could bench 350 without any specifying training because he is an elite athlete as well.
I can believe the 100m and 800m. No way for the mile. Saw football players at KU come off football season and train up for track +/- a month. They were running 46 point relay splits and 600 yard times in the 1:10 range. Natural athleticism goes a long way for 400m/800m types. These guys had speed, strength, and competitive mindset. They were tough competitors who would go out very fast and hold on fighting all the way. For Hester, maybe, and I mean a huge maybe he ran a 4:09 1500m.
The mile was only a 1600m:)The part that is totally unbeleivable isn't the times. It is the idea of a 100m guy wanting to test his conditioning by running more than 400m. Just doesn't happen. Now a teammate betting him 100 bucks that he can't break 2:00 would be a much more believable story.

His milesplit page only shows records of him doing 100, 200, long jump and triple jump.
Who is Devin Hester?
If it's on wikipedia it must be true.

He ran the 10.42 at the Big East meet in 2004 when at Miami. Didn't run that fast in HS. He also is extremely unlikely to have run either the 800m or mile time.
Hester's HS best are listed as
10.81
21.83
24-1
I always thought Hester's speed was over-rated. Certainly not in the Bob Hayes/Cliff Branch/Lam Jones/Ron Brown category.
Hester did have other-worldly cutting and acceleration abilities. Not no more.

10.81?! That's incredibly slow for a future NFL player known for his speed. I was expecting 10.3 or 10.4

All-athletics lists that 10.42 with a wind of 6.0! It would appear that he's not a 10.3-10.4 guy but really a 10.8 guy in hs who improved to maybe 10.60. About the same real speed as a certain other NFL guy who thinks he can beat Usain Bolt.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
