Meh not a surprise. I would have laughed my a$$ off if she did run and chose Footlocker instead of NXN.
Definitely a bummer

I figured it was implied that the original post was just getting at the fact that she would not run NXN.
Alberto Salazar said:
"Mary will most probably not run any cross country races. She’s doing a remarkable job changing her form, but in order to handle it and not risk injury, she’s only up to five miles a day. And the workouts are not very fast as well."
Interesting...
baxter is one of the best HS XC runners this country has ever seen!...raced cain twice in XC (12&11 NXN), it would of taken a mighty big camera lense to see cain or anyone for that matter in the picture! Heard the excuses, but these are the facts....has far as I know she as never been pushed thoughtout the whole race?...never?

Nope. Not only was the statement inaccurate it was so inaccurate as to be 'unattractively large or bloated'. Sounds right to me.
In other news, water is wet.
Its Oct 28 and with no sign of her, I think we all assumed she was not running XC a long time ago.

Not to anyone who knows what they are talking about. Baxter has not been beaten by Cain in xc. Next, you'll say that Cain has improved since last year. I agree. But so has Baxter. It's either a tossup or Baxter wins again. So it's certainly not "grossly" inaccurate to say that Baxter would win again.

So we have someone who was posting HS Class times for 2 miles against someone who lined up at the world championships for 1500m. Who would you take in an XC race?
Not sure why neither ran world xc last spring - afraid of the african competition? Except that Cain ran indoors, and fast. Given how relatively poor Baxter's track season was this year, (she is obviously a XC-type runner) that challenge (world XC) might have been beneficial.
Cain is learning how to race (track anyway) on the world stage, while Baxter is racing solo in HS meets. Boggles my mind. Is she saving herself for the NCAA? or trying to become amongst the best in the world? The two aren't mutually inclusive. Ask Sheila Reid, multi-time NCAA champ, how it feels to get her butt handed to her at Worlds - track anyway - and that is the reality. If US athletes want to keep up with the Africans, they have to look beyond the confines of the scholastic system (HS or NCAA) to find the competition, especially for the women. As well as Jenny Simpson is running (1500 is easier than the distances to do well at currently), there is a long way to go for 5k/10k to get to low-14's and sub-30. Undoubtedly Baxter is likely to be a marathoner in the long-term, but getting International experience when possible, especially when you can't find the competition locally, seems to make sense. It doesn't cost money to represent the US, other than getting to trials meets, and their is a Junior category - don't have to run Senior as Mary did in the summer.
"...Cain is learning how to race (track anyway) on the world stage,..."
Learn mid-d racing from Salazar? Surely, you jest. If Cain wanted to learn that, was not an impressionable adolescent and was not beholden to Salazar/Nike (who are joined at the navel), she would go elsewhere.

Very funny. We changed the thread titles to reflect your suggestion.
Kind of a bummer for the sport, with Baxter running well again it could have been another good match up.

Neither 2 miles nor 1500 is a cross country 5k.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
