I ran the Mayor's Cup today. About 3.5 miles into the race, I saw a guy come flying by me. Then a group of other guys. Then I realized they were the leaders of the race and shortly after I heard one of them yell to an official "We got sent the wrong way!". The official yelled back "Yeah I know".
Then later I heard an official say "If you just ran up the hill, go to the finish, if you didn't go up the hill." So they were directing those guys to go the finish. Then I saw the results and a least some of those people were way up in the results.
My conclusion is that somehow they had most runners run the normal course, and somehow had a group of runners run a different loop sequence which still added up to 8k?!? That seems unbelievable but that is the only thing I could conclude. Anyone know what happened / the officials did?
