My team has been having this debate for years. Personally, I think there's no way in hell king James' runs under 5 minutes in the mile. He's way to big to carry all that weight that far and that fast. Thoughts?

I agree. I don't care how athletic he is, he's too big.
No way. 5:40 tops
Anyone who responds with a yes to this question should have their junk crushed with a basketball. Repeatedly.
No way. My guess:
100m. 10.9
200m 23.8
400m. 54.2
800m. 2:13
1500m. 4:48
Mile 5:18
If he has a fore- or mid-foot strike, it's possible. If he heelstrikes, no.
5 minutes would be EASY for Lebron.
8 X 200 in 30 seconds with 15 seconds walk recovery between repeats.
(the walking will easily cover the other 9 meters)
This would result in about 4:58
How can he run anywhere with these feet? http://www.atlnightspots.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Screen-Shot-2013-06-08-at-6.54.40-AM-500x499.png

Oh, fuck! Is that a real foot?

Are you out of your mind? Have you ever done a 30-30 workout? Running 30 second 2's with 30 second rest is a pretty brutal workout for a runner. Lebron would have a tougher time doing this workout than running under 5 in a mile. C'mon bro!
He's intentionally crossing his big toe under his other toe.
He's 250 pounds. Whats the heaviest fastest person you know and that should give you an idea. Maybe subtract 45 seconds from their mile time since he's a professional athlete who does a lot of running in general and you'll get his mile time. I say Lebron is about a 5:50 guy tops with training.

You're talking about slow distance runners. For one of the best conditioned athletes in the world at sprinting and recovering, 30 second 200s would be a jog.
break it up like O and D wrote:

.
The odds are over whelming that LB can not run a sub 5 mile. His height-to-weight ratio is .32 (80"/250lbs) is probably way to low...even if he has exceptional aerobic ability (he does play most games at a high level for most of the game) Most runners capable running a sub 5 are probably above .38? Bolt is at .32 and a 5'9"/ 160 distance runner is .43. A 5'9" / 190 guy is .36. For reference, Nick Symmonds is .42 (70/165).
Are we talking right now or with several months of training? With several months of specific training, he does it easily. Slow high school kids can break 5. Its not gonna be a problem for the King.
Not a chance in Hell. 5:40 would be pushing it. I'd say 5:50's at best. LB is way too big and heavy.

"Hawes (7-1, 250 lbs). was clocked at 5 minutes, 23 seconds in the team's mile run."
Debate over.
I remember reading this a couple years ago in a different article too.

And yea, I'm saying LeBron can definitely break 5:00.
Lebron James is obviously in excellent physical condition, but probably not familiar with pacing.
If he had a pacer, then yes, Labron could break 5 minutes for a mile. It might not be easy for him, but he could do it.
