Howdy,
Years ago, a college strength coach made the good morning rather than the deadlift part of my team's program. I'm middle aged now and don't compete anymore, but for fitness I include lots of single-leg exercises on a BOSU or pillow-disc/air-disc (those squishy plastic saucers inflated with air) to accomplish the same goals pursued via squats or hinge exercises (e.g., deadlifts, good mornings). The weights I use on a BOSU or pillow-disc/air-disc are lower, usually just my body weight, but I feel the risk from these, especially to my lower back, is much lower than from more traditional weight training. I tend to think in terms of reward to risk ratio.
Still, I'm curious: is there much difference between a deadlift and a good morning?
Thanks.
