I was thinking about this recently. I ran 4:12 for the mile in high school (not super elite but good) and went to my local State U on full scholarship (academics + athletic made it ~free). While I feel I got a decent education, part of me thinks I should have used my running as a ticket to a great school, Ivy League or something similar. I am not a genius, but I did very well in school and had high test scores (high, but not good enough on their own to get me into Ivy Leagues). I am pretty sure I could have gone to a great school had I wanted to due to my running though. Even if I came out with debt, I would probably have made better connections and be making more than I am now, so I would have been able to pay off the loans pretty quickly. I would have also been surrounded by brilliant people instead of mostly partying idiots, which would have been really nice.
What would you have done differently?
