Hello. I have recently been diagnosised with psoriatic arthritis (similar to rhuematoid arthritis - meaning it is an autoimmune arthritis). I am not going to post my PRs, nor ask what I can run a 5K in - because *that* is not what I have questions about ;-). But, I will say that I am a 50 year old female, and I run about 70 mpw when not marathon training (and up to 85 when marathon training).
My doctor wants to start with methotrexate first, rather than start on the TNF-inhibitors (biologics) - because it is cheaper, and if it works, then it is better. I have friends who are still running competitively while taking Enbril or other biologics, but I have seen very little in the way of fairly competitive runners who are taking methotrexate. Could anyone give me their experiences in trying to run high mileage (and compete) while taking low, or even high, dose methotrexate?
Thank you!
