We fell in love with Ben True in our Week that Was this week. One thing we didn't realize when we wrote it is True wanted to run the 5000 in the Diamond League in Brussels but didn't get in.
"Unfortunately due to politics I will not be racing @MVDbrussels 5k. Will race 3k @RietiMeeting instead," tweeted True last week.
We imagine he'll be pretty motivated for next year as a result.
Getting a lane in the DL isn't easy. Ryan Hill, whom True beat while doing all the work when both set their PBs in Belgium, did get in but he has the advantage of marketing himself as a World Championship finalist who beat True at USAs. Ben St. Lawrence was in the race as well and didn't run well but he's got a better PB than True and beat him in Belgium. Collis Birmingham, who was only 24th in the Moscow 10,000 also got in, but he's got a slightly better pb than True and we can see why the meet might want a second Australian instead of a sixth American.
