Igy,
Hopefully you understand that if a stock price goes up, investors make money. And that's the name of the game.

Big,
Only if you lock into your gain by selling.

That was implied, of course. But thanks for the clarification.
Big,
That to me is the essential point. Traders "can" not "will" make money in this market, investors I doubt it.

holy carp
Amzn: +6.25%
Goog: +9.8%
MSFT: +10.9%
That there is american tech might blowing the doors out. Turning the amp to 11.
I don't even know what to say - those are some of the most valuable companies on the planet, adding points like a microcap.
The money...the money....
SP500 only 3% down from the highs now
rally caps, gents
AMZN PE 870
MSFT PE 32
GOOGL PE 32
AMZN is growing it earnings but it trades at a ridiculous valuation that it is unlikely ever to grow into. MSFT and GOOGL earnings actually went down over comparable quarters. If MSFT's business is so good why did they announce more layoffs. If GOOG's business is so good why are they buying back $5 billion in stock. Valuation of the market is more distorted since earnings have been falling while price of stocks are rising.

I wonder how the currency market will view European and Chinese easing? It is already affecting the WTI Crude at $44.50 down 1.8%.
agip,
Here are some facts:
*173 of 500 S&P companies have reported thus far; year over year earnings growth -3%
*S&P Capital IQ estimates that S&P 500 stock buybacks have given earnings a +4% tailwind
Where's the beef?

Ummm...to invest in a great business?
Ummmm,
IBM and CAT thought the same way as you. Didn't work out as planned.

geez haven't we covered this? If you take out energy and materials the numbers goes poz. And the strong dollar has hurt too.
And again, stocks go up because of predictions of the future, not what happened last quarter.
In 4Q or 1Q when revs start going back up again because we've lapped the energy collapse, will you turn bullish? Those buying today are buying in front of the backwards looking folks.
agip,
I will turn Bullish when the market returns to a valuation level that is appropriate to earnings and growth.

ok so when we have mid single digit revenue and earnings growth you'll be ok with a PE of 17 and then you will be bullish?
this is a weird flickin rally - small caps are actually down today.
i suppose the tech giants are sucking up every last dollar
I don't like it...although a tech-led rally is pretty appealing

Ummm...sometimes I think that you are the stupidest person to ever post on this thread. How could you possibly think that coming up with 2 companies as examples constitutes anything? I mean anything at all? And yet you do this constantly - even after it has been pointed out to you.
Are you really that dumb?
agip,
Plus decline of stock buybacks and decline of non-GAAP accounting. I don't see any of that happening until the market rolls over and the speculation ends. At that point the Fast Money Traders will become discredited and Jim Cramer retires. Oh, and the Najerian Brothers stop selling their "free book" on options trading. Also, Zukerberg wears a collared shirt, Tim Cook shelves the power point presentation, Silcon Valley Real Estate takes a 75% hair cut, and Dow hits 13,000.

Yum,
Oh sorry, Ummmm. Smart enough to figure out what you can't. IBM and CAT have been serial members of the stock buyback club. Buying stock at all time highs. GOOG will do the same.
Hey buy the stock if you think you are the smart. Check back with me in two years.
Igy
So now you favor buy and hold?
Sally V,
Nope, sell GOOG, hold cash wait for better valuation.
