What current FED policy is driving the market? Raising rates?
Stock buybacks do affect By lowering share count.
Central back policies do affect markets by causing investors to move up the risk curve. Sure that is changing somwhat and that is why housing may be rolling over.
Here is an excellent article from Forbes magazine on how stock buybacks may or may not affect stock price, "Three Things You Should Know About The Stock Buyback Furor"

If you read my statement I highlighted “central bank policies.” In that regard interest rate policies are cross border and the rates in Europe and Japan inflence ours at home. Besides the Fed may have raised interest rates but still maintains a balance sheet of $4.2 Trillion of QE. Here is a recent quote from Stephen Roach, former Chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia.
“The Fed’s preference for glacial normalization both in the early 2000s and now keeps monetary policy on emergency settings long after the emergency has passed. Doing so raises the distinct possibility that the Fed will lack the ammunition it will need to counter the inevitable next recession.”
I suggest you might want to look at the interplay between global interest rates and global quantitative easing. It is not only the rate itself but the liquidity that raises asset prices beyond normal valuation. Leads to unproductive use of resources (stock buybacks, unnecessary commercial real estate) and resulting slower economic growth.

Earnings divided by shares. But you referred to “earnings”, not EPS. Please don’t tell me that you think they are the same thing.
Now answer my question. No dancing.
Ed,
You need to learn yourself up. I do not need to dance, you need to understand the subject better. For example here is Apple’s latest quarterly filing, often times referred to as an “earnings report.”
http://investor.apple.com/secfiling.cfm?filingID=320193-18-100&CIK=320193
If you examine it you will see that “ earnings” is an EPS number derived from Net Income and share count.
Poor try, I suggest you know your subject better before you enter the debate.
