Figures the longhorn would screw up after Jessica Beard ran such a great opening leg
The officials are at fault here.

Nope all on Spencer, the order doesn't change after the officials put them in it. Spencer wasn't paying attention
Very smart tactics by Ryzhova. Moved wide coming into the straight, making Spencer think she could sneak through on the inside. Spencer didn't realise until 10m before the changeover that she had to get into lane 2 to change, and she couldn't get in front of Ryzhova to do so, so she had to slam the brakes and move around Ryzhova from the back.
How did they get crossed over like that on the last handoff? Shouldnt the American have moved out to lane 2 earlier? Or did the Russian #4 line up wrong? What are the rules? I thought they were going to crash into each other.
exactly right
The dirty Russkies have have a standard practice of moving to lane 2 if they are in the lead.

They are lined up based on the order the runners are in at the 200m mark on that lap so Russia was in the correct place on the inside. Spencer should have known that she was in second at that point and even if she didn't realize that she had 100 meters coming down the home stretch to look up and see where her teammate was but didn't do that until she was 10 meters away.

Yeah, how dare those dirty Russkies try to use their brains to win a race!

Like Nick Symmonds in the 800? Aman crossed the finish in lane 3
because nick moved out so much.
There's no hand off ashvipe!
If the 4th Russky had moved out - I would have no problem with that.

thank you I
adding
the outgoing runners are placed on the line in the order the teams are in 200m from the exchange zone and they must remain in that order in spite of any position change in the last 200m of the incoming leg..
The race was lost by Natasha Hastings. When will this girl learn that you can't go out that hard and not tie up at the end??? #Dumb
This seems like the kind of situation the coaches should have addressed with the runners. I wonder if they did?
