Get real, it wasn't close. It was over after Arman Hall's leg, and the Jamaican anchor running an idiotic first half of his leg and then dying almost gave the silver to Russia. This was textbook of how NOT to tun an anchor leg.

He ran a great leg. Yeah, he fizzled approaching the line but that was because he blew his wad making up for the other three lackluster legs which had him starting out in 5th place. Had he not dipped, the Russian would have had him.
USA had it in the bag from the start. Great run by LaShawn Merritt but Jamaica somehow managed to steal the spotlight with a stupendous anchor leg. Javon Francis fought all the way from 5th place to bag the silver.

We're resurrecting this thread because we just came across an article where it says the 18-year old Javon Francis ran a 44.40 split on the anchor leg.
http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sport/Javon-Francis-_15737256?Pretty remarkable.
We've also updated the title of this thread to reflect his split for historical purposes as he looks like a potential future star.
Here is a thread on Javon Francis which talks about his 45.42 he ran in June at a Jamaican all-comers meet. He improved that to 45.24 at the Jamaican champs:

Rusheen McDonald (46.0) 17.08.92
Edino Steele (44.3) 06.01.87
Omar Johnson (45.53) 25.11.88
Javon Francis (44.05) 14.12.94

and article says he ran 44.00
