When Bekele won he led the whole thing but the pace was probably a lot less erratic. Todays race the pace was jumping all over the place which is harder on an athlete.
1000m 402 Kenenisa Bekele ETH 2:54.35
2000m 402 Kenenisa Bekele ETH 5:34.17
3000m 402 Kenenisa Bekele ETH 8:14.63
4000m 402 Kenenisa Bekele ETH 10:52.22
5000m(1) 402 Kenenisa Bekele ETH 13:17.09
Look at the splits. The first km is 2:54, almost 10 seconds slower than today. Bekele ran his last 4k in 10:22.74, which is 12:58 pace. Also, during the race today the Africans were throwing in very short, weak surges that Mo wasn't even responding to. The pace wasn't particularly erratic for him.
While Bekele's run in 2009 was more impressive than Mo's today (the point), Mo was still plenty impressive.
Most impressive stat I saw was G-wet's 3rd to last 100m. He ran it in 12.55! (According to the IAAF splits) Mo's fastest was 13.09.

......why can't I be good at running... just gotta keep working at it
So it turns out the first 4 all ran 2.22ish and G-wet actually went 2.21.8 faster than Mo.
They are all on the juice?
Or none?
Regardless of the time or pace of the 5k at WC, Farah's consistency in his wins is pretty amazing. I don't think anyone can really say that he's as fast as Kenenisa Bekele or Haile Gebreselassie.... but I think the last couple of years of wins shows thathe's definitely the best & smartest 5k-10k racer of our time.
Yeah, it seems like he can be beaten if their tactics are as good - shown by those finishing behind and closing faster but being too far back to beat him.
