Too much talk about Jager. No chance he was going to medal. What should be noted was the impressive performance by 2xNCAA champ Matt Hughes. PR&NR, 1 position behind Jager. Give him another year and the resources Jager has and he'll beat Jager.

great race!! so happy for matt hughes...but i always wonder what the former record holder thinks? graham fell you were so great!!
now a canadian high jump national record!!! what an awesome day!
That being said, he just needs to get faster. Mekhissi's pr is 6+ seconds faster than Evan's. With a couple years he'll be there. I don't think Evan will hit his ceiling for quite a while. He's got a ton of talent.

I agree with TJ, he needed to make his move at the bell just like Mekhissi did. He wouldn't have won the race but he might have been able to grab bronze. Trying to outkick Kemboi off the final turn is a lost cause.

donuts wrote:Yes, no kick compared to the Kemboi and Kipruto, but almost dipped for 4th, and certainly was not going backwards liked Mekhissi. Unfortunately, could not accelerate at 200 with the medallists.
I think going backwards for 3rd is better than almost dipping for 4th
Obviously, but just saying. I agree he needs to go from further out.

Does anyone know if he plans to race at all after worlds?

Solid race. He missed his own PR, which is the AR, by only 0.06 seconds.

Too much talk?? I predicted Jager to medal & practically everyone replied, saying likely not. Besides me, not sure who you're talking to, when saying "too much talk".
Is that your act? Wait until a race is over, & say "I told you so?" But when you're wrong, you don't post?

Well, Hughes ran a great race, no doubt. Very impressive and kudos to him.
The Jager hate is weird though. Jager ran really well too. He beat Hughes by 3 seconds, his PR is 5 seconds better, Hughes has been running the steeple for nearly 6 years now and Jager is only in his second... I don't know, it seems like there are some decent reasons to discuss Jager a lot.
Both guys deserve major props for their running today, IMO. Exciting look at the future of North American steeplechasers.
I'll never understand why people would go on a message board community and spew hate.
Woah woah woah. Take it easy fanboy. I'm sure jager will reply to your fan mail someday

Sounds like great runs by both Jager and Hughes. I'm confused by the Jager hate, too. How did he go from beloved to scorned so quickly? And how can you say of someone who just got 5th in the worlds that there was no way he was going to medal or no one who follows track thought he would medal? Anyone that close to a medal was in with a chance at some hardware!
Nice work!
Ok, it's official
Hughes > Ahmed > Levins
Results?

Kipruto the sacrificial lamb.
Nope.
The 3K SC heats sent all the front runners to the finals. The women's 5K- same thing. The men's 1500m sent many as well.
When are ppl going to stop with that mentality? It's what made G.Heath run 3:48 at the USATF prelims & not advance. Maybe he's running at these WC's, if he doesn't think that way.

My bad. Jager was 1.86 seconds off his AR (8:06.81, not 8:08.61). Nonetheless, solid race by Jager.
8:08 (and 8:11) are very good times off such a slow start.
Jaguar is 8 min low shape and Hughes is in 8:08 shape...
Losing narrowly to four guys with sub 8 ability (Kemboi and Koech have gone sub 8, Benabbad 8 flat) in a time of 8:08 is nothing to be ashamed about. We knew that Jager's kick was not at their level at this point. He needed a low 8 race to have a chance for one of the favorites to crack or to have a really strong, sustained drive, but this was close to his ceiling at this point.

Wait, aren't you the guy who liked Ritz' chances?
Please just stop posting. You are making a fool of yourself.
