Hmmm 10th fastest in the field, probably can kick for 5th-7th in a slow race might contend for bronze in a really really slow race I.e. go out in 73 seconds.

Became a fan of Jenny Simpson today. It never sat well with me that she took a dive in her final NCAA cross country meet, but today she showed that she is actually capable of running with guts (unlike the rest of women's 1500 field - save for the lone junior - who sat and kicked).

One question, though: I watched the BBC broadcast of the race and I still can figure out who this HannER England person was to whom they kept referring. I saw a Hannah England in the field, but no HannER. Odd...

Now maybe folks will shut up about Simpson's Daegu gold being a fluke.

One helluva meet for Cain. After running 4:08 and 4:05 in the rounds (with a PR of only 4:04), she still manages a 4:07 in the final. Of course she faded under the circumstances, but I knew that was happening as soon as Simpson took it out faster than a job. What impressed me so much is that she immediately stuck her nose right in there, going to the front off the leader in a friggin World Championships final. She didn't run in intimidated and she tried to run the type of race you have to run in a championship final, but she just doesn't have the legs for it yet.

Look at it this way: She just ran three races in five days that AVERAGED 4:06.87, or 7.63 seconds faster than Hasay's previous HS record. And she did it in the World Championships, including the final.

How does doing it at the WC make it more impressive? Seems like it'd be easier to do there since you can just follow and not have to lead.

Heats, Semi's and then a final...for a gal who just turned 17.

Do the math. How any times have you ever run 3 races in so few days?

Presuming you're "sick of it" because it's your country's broadcasters who are being criticized, my advice to you and yours is that you learn to correctly pronounce words. In this example, the name "Hannah" ends with a schwa sound...not an R sound. It really is that simple.

Aregawi's been training in Ethiopia and catching/having stomach problems on and off for two months. Pain and throwing up as late as before the first round now in Moscow.

Two months ago she said that she would be prepared to take it from the front running a WL of 3:55 if needed. Obviously relieved the slow way the race played out today.

Had the Kenyans helped Simpson taking it out hard(er) she probably wouldn't have been able to follow them sub 4:00 today. Instead Cain moved up there too signaling "you K-girls sit back, us Americans are gonna heat this up this today" without being able to follow through.

So in essence; Cain's early move probably cost Simpson the Gold medal today.
