I am part Native American so it has always bugged me a bit when folks around my office say that someone is "Off the Reservation" when they aren't doing their job.
So, I described someone today (a white, male coworker) as being "Off the Plantation" to a white, female coworker. I said it very non-chalantly as if there was nothing at all politically incorrect about it. Just left a meeting with the boss and HR personnel. I was told to stop using that phrase or I would be recommended to HR for termination. My use of the phrase had already spread around the office by the time I left my meeting. When I brought up the "Off the Reservation" comparison it was simply dismissed as "that's different."
Seriously? Is it different or is this just pc power?
