I agree with this to an extent. If I were in charge we'd have:
100, 400, 1500, 5000
110 Hurdles
Long Jump, Pole Vault
Javelin, shot put
No relays. No 200, 800, 10000, marathon, 400h, or steeplechase. No high jump, or triple jump. No hammer throw. No race walks.
As a fan, I'd miss some of those events, but all of them are not necessary. By eliminating several events, you can make the whole championship shorter by several days, requiring less money to host, leaving more money for the competitors.
You could host the whole thing in a three to four day period and have enough money to pay every finalist.
