Pardon the Interruption just did a segment on the Mo Vs. Bolt 600m race. This is great for track and field and hopefully this will come to fruition. I'll post a link to the clip when it becomes available.

Did they know what events Mo specializes in?

Yea, they were both giving love to distance runners...both agreed Mo would win over 600 and Bolt would win over 500. Sounded like they were pretty educated about track and field.
They certainly did some homework before they went on the air. They even brought up an interesting point that Farah knows exactly what he could run 600m in, while Bolt is only guessing.
The best matchup would be Mo vs. Kirani at 600m
Soon everybody will have forgotten about the drugs.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
Tony Kornheiser is actually a pretty big track and field fan. He tries to insert some track topics every once and awhile.
For those interested here's the link. It's at around 8:20.

i love it!
Impressive overall but I disagree that all distance runners start as sprinters who couldn't cut it.

I respectfully disagree with you. We'd all run the 100 if we could, and we kept moving up until we found something we were good at.

Perhaps athletically, but it never would have been mentioned on PTI, or any other mainstream sports outlet.
Wilbon is also a big fan of T&F.
I agree. Different people are more specialized for different distances, but if you have great 100m speed, that's the event you would compete in. Not the 5k. People only move up in distance because they can't compete at shorter distances. I'm glad there are lots of different events in track and field. I enjoy watching them all and I have great respect for elite distances runners, but when it comes right down to it, everybody wants to be Usain Bolt.
I watched this when it aired yesterday. These guys were genuinely excited about the possibility of this race taking place. My first thought was not that this race should happen - it NEEDS to happen. And I'd say more of these need to happen going forward. Great opportunity for positive attention to T&F.
That was cool. It seemed like they really knew what they were talking about. I think Mo would win he knows what it is like to run a race like that and Bolt would be in uncharted territory. Imagine Bolt hitting 400 and then realizing he still has a whole 200 meter race ahead.
You're forgetting that Bolt will actually train for this. It won't be uncharted territory after he's run some time trials.
Excellent point, Moose. Bolt has a lot of pride and will not go down easy. Everyone seems to think Bolt will/should go out fast and try to drop Mo. I think a better strategy would be for him to simply follow Mo, then drop the hammer in the last 100m. Whatever happens, this is great for the sport and if both men leave it all on the track for the whole 600m, it should be a compelling race to watch. I can't wait.
I agree. I actually think it would be in Mo's favor to take as hard as he can from the gun, last thing he wants is Usain Bolt on his tail with less than 200 to go. I think that if they raced today, Mo would win all the way, that last 200 would make Bolt suffer. However, with training for the distance, I think this race would be exceptionally tight.
Would love to watch it.
I agree that this race would be good for the sport, and it would be fun to see two runners at the top of their respective distances facing off at a distance for which neither of them are particularly well-suited. It is, however, a bit disconcerting that someone like Brandon Johnson could very well win this race if invited, and a healthy Rudisha would make it a mockery.
What about Usain vs. Kirani at 300m?
