I think Ferrari is throwing out hints about what he thinks is the new chemical approach to enhancing performance among endurance athletes, which seems to involve artificially maintaining a low body weight (which would potentially be dangerous in normal circumstances).
Obviously, if an elite athlete can lose a few pounds without losing strength, oxygen-carrying capacity, etc, that would be a good thing for them. The problem seems to be that it's hard to pull it off without becoming sick and breaking down. My impression is that the main reason thyroid drugs seem to be the new "in" drugs is their effects on weight loss and maintenance.
Ferrari probably has some professional interest in the matter. He's pretty sure there is something going on with Froome and Farah, and he's pretty sure it involves artificially induced weight loss, but he's not sure of all the details. That's my theory, anyway.
How heavy was McMullen at peak fitness? I always fancied myself as one of the faster heavier guys (very nearly broke 4mins knocking on the door of 170lbs)and McMullen was an idol to look up to.
ferrari doesn't think he knows what's going on
ferrari knows every detail of what they doin
how why when what
ferrari is the master doper

we've been through this recently. webb is 5'9" 143, just to give you some context of what that looks like on an elite distance runner.
At what point? He looks closer to 155-160 at a lot of points in his career. I have no doubt he weighed 143 at one point but weight for elites is just like the rest of us, it is not a static figure.
It's also interesting that doping master Ferrari groups Froome and Farah together, because they do fit a similar profile - both started out the first few years of their careers without outstanding results, followed by a sudden breakthrough, continuing on to world domination in their events (perhaps it should be noted that both have defenders who try to argue that their breakthroughs were not really that unexpected, which is total BS). Both show unusual, unexpected range - Froome as both a climber and a time-trialer, and Farah now suddenly transforming into one of the fastest 1500m runners ever, to go along with his established 5k/10k credentials. Both are very skinny even among their fellow elites - inarguably so for Froome, and maybe less obviously so for Farah. Although, I must say that he had an almost insectoid look to him when I saw a video of him racing recently which I hadn't noticed before.

lol where are you getting this from!?? He is MUCH lighter than that.
Probably 130lbs.
Well said
Do you recognise this man?

Maybe Mo Farah also had an as-yet undiagnosed case of bilharzia?
Ferrari's remarks were deliberately inspecific, but your "theory" as you call it, makes much sense. Thanks for such a well considered post.
I'm 5'11" and 148 and I'm consider myself fat for a runner.
Only non-runners call me lean/thin/fit, etc.
I'm 5'8 and 120-125 Ibs, so Mo is not "ghastly" skinny even at 5'9 and 126 Ibs

Give me a break. I'm 5'10 155 and I'm beanpole thin.
yeah in college i was 5'11 and 143 and was the fatter kid on the cross country team.
no. way. farah is NOT that heavy. If he is 5'9, I say he is 120-125, just as thin as El G, depending on hydration.

I mean, that's thin but that's not even really skinny. I went into college at 5'10" 138 as a 400/800 guy and I wasn't unhealthy or "ghastly". Later on after some of my long runs (admittedly after a lot of water loss) I'd get as low as 128-129 and that was probably unhealthy but that was only for a couple of hours at a time. Really don't think the 130s for a 5'9" guy is so crazy but maybe that's just me

I assumed that was fairly easy to follow
Are you for real - using weight Vs height to confirm doping practices?
Get a life - 67:21 HM runer at 5"10 and 130lbs - I would be really shit if I had to take PEDs to run that time. Weight and height is indication of nothing.
I was 5'10" and 136 after high school(lifted weights) and 5'10" 123 after college(3.76% BF hydro weighed) coach didn't beleive in lifting weights.
