Solid run for Ajee Wilson as well.
The British announcer can't say Martinez's name correctly.
Hearing mar tin EZ constantly was quite annoying.
Martinez and Montano are such an exciting duo, similar to Symmonds and Solomon on the men's side. Could the U.S. come home with 3+ medals in the 800m?
Are u kiddine me?! That's what makes the BBC guys so awesome to listen to.

Doesnt bother me but they were a little off their game I thought, especially the first guy who was clueless about which one was Martinez. They other guy, who I really like, bailed him out.
Our race recap is up here:

Mart in ez.
Out of interest how do you pronounce Martinez in the USA or Mexico?
In the U.S. Its pronounced as mar teen ez
Thank for the serious answer.
I also wondered if people find some of our accents hard to understand, like Steve Cram (north east) and Colin Jackson (welsh).

We in the USA and Mexico pronounce it the way it's pronounced in Spain, where it originates and where it is, as it is here, one of the most common names. In fact it's one of the most common names in the world. Honestly, how does someone not know how to pronounce it? It isn't as though British people have never been to Spain. The place is crawling with them. You'd think "Fish and chips" was the national Spanish dish. Why would someone who doesn't suffer profound cognitive dysfunction think to pronounce Martinez as though it were Martin-ez?
No, in Spain it's pronounced MarteenETH. Their Z is pronounced like "eth". It is pronounced differently in the USA, latin america.
because stresses are on different syllables depending on where you live. if i went on tv and said marteeenez then everyone would look at me oddly. just like you look at english people oddly for saying martinez. do you pronounce austrian names with an austrian accent? german names with a german accent? chinese names with a chinese accent? no
You should have heard Brendon Foster on BBC , horrible , had know idea who Martinez was , thought the brit was going to win , clearly had not done his homework or watched a track meet this year.
They pronounce it that way for the same reason they pronounce everything different from how we pronounce everything.
