based on his accomplishments the 5k seems to be his best event but who knows maybe his training this year is all 10k focused. his only chance at beating mo is hammering the pace, which won't happen.
Clearly he knows he has no chance against Mo Farah in a 5000, and is hoping that maybe with all the speed work that Farah has been doing it has taken something away from his 10000 abilities. He will probably be sorely disappointed.

And how do you know? Dude ran 26:51 front running the last 7km. I honestly feel he's in better shape than mo at the 10,000m. A lot of you guys are reading way too much into mo's 1500m. Just because you ran a fast time at the 1500m doesn't mean you're guarenteed a win in the 10,000m. I'll make sure to pull this thread up when the upset happens.
Gebremeskel doesn't even have a qualifying time in the 5000.
Ethiopia couldn't select him even if they wanted to.
Please do so, but if you do, try to spell the word 'guaranteed' correctly. Thanks. But on the substantive point, of course DG has a chance, but given that he is not running the 5, he must realize his chance is in a fast 10, not a slow 10 with a fast whatever. And this will help Ritz's chances.

CALLED IT!!! this is how they are going to beat Mo farah. their gonna make him run very hard in thw 10k and in the semi finals for the 5k. by the time he's kicking away in the final 5k Alimener or whatever his name his will be fresher and thus capable of beating him.
What's strange about the list Stretti blogged is that Ethiopia has entered only two guys in the Steeplechase, two men in the 800, and one women in the 800.
interesting deveopment here... wrote:

Ritz' chances of a medal are zero regardless of strategy employed or who is in the race.
Please wake up now.
I think you guys are giving Mo too much credit and DG not enough. Remember the homestretch of the 5k at the Olympic final? DG was charging hard and got blocked and Mo was home free before he could catch him. He's also beaten Mo head to head multiple times. The guy's a beast, and runs with grit and balls (something I think we can all agree mo does not do).
the real battle that we all want to see is Mo attempt to beat the ethiopians in a marathon run on a track

Only if the track is downhill the whole way. That would be WAY cool!

I'm picking Alimener for the win!

Or how about this? Closing out a 12:46 race with a last lap of 54.5, a last 200m of 25.9, and a last 100m of 12.8 seconds!!!
Ethiopia making their usual mistakes
KB Reserve?
DG not even listed for the 5000?/???
their 10000m squad has at least one major weakness in Kuma, and potentially another in Jelain who is severely unproven as the defending world champion. We can also confirm Imane Merga is nearly useless as he hasn't raced Mo Farah since the year he was Mo's b*tch. That leaves only Dejen as a legitimate threat to Mo.
as for the 5000, this is not a bad squad, but I am VERY surprised that Gebremeskel isn't even mentioned. as fast as Edris is on the final lap, here are my doubts:
1. will he be able to handle a 60 second penultimate that Mo and Rupp WILL throw down if it is tactical?
2. will he be able to handle a sub 13 race and still manage to outkick everyone?
As much as an Ethiopian sweep in the 5000 wouldn't surprise me, the fact that they are solely basing it on time can basically have one assume that they are going to be wondering why they didn't succeed when it mattered.
He got humiliated by Gebrhiwet early in the season. Then he nearly outkicked Farah but in a relatively slow race that Gebrhiwet would have won easily if it were faster. He's not in shape for a 5k that might turn out fast. The 10k will definitely not be fast.
The Ethios will run the 10000m at a blistering pace. This is the only way to beat Moh Fara. Two sacrificial lambs (Mergah and one more), then Gebremeskel and Jeilan battling it out with Moh and Rupp.
I fear Rupp will be dropped early though.
Mo Farah has a 10k PR of 26:46. Just thought I'd remind you all. It's gonna take one HELL of a pace to take the kick out of him.

Hey, that's pretty good, when was that? Wait, I remember, 2011. Never mind.
Mo could not run a sub-27 this year on a downhill course with a 4 m/s tailwind.

26:46 isn't that fast. It's THIRTY seconds off world record pace.
