Agree with one of the earlier posts.
Rupp has not looked brilliant for the this entire outdoor campaign.
last year he did look great at pre and in his lead up.
This year, nothing seems to come easily to him in races.
He's still a great runner, but you get the sense that he isn't on the upswing, like you got at this time of the season last year.
I don't think this was just a bad race for him, i think this may unfortunately be indicative of his season this year, with regards to running fast times.
It really is the nature of improvement, forward 2 steps, back a half step, then hopefully another step forward in a season or 2.
Hang in there Mr Rupp
Really this could be the last true track focused year for Rupp. I would speculate that he doesn't medal at worlds and Salazar decides next year to try moving him up. The problem with that will be that all the money is in the marathon and he could potentially be worse off in the marathon. This next 6 weeks will be very telling.

This was Rupp's second best ever 5000! I'd say it's a good run leading up to his 10,000 at the WC. He's fine.
Yep!

I watched the whole race and Rupp was sitting behind Lagat. Lagat was obviously having an off day and a gap opened in front of him but Rupp left it way too long to go past Lagat and by that time it was too late as the gap was too big to close. If he had gone straight past when the gap started to open I think he would have held onto the lead group and probably would have broken 13 minutes. It was a bad tactical error, he should have just had the balls to go straight past Lagat. Having said that he showed some real guts to run on his own for most of the second half of the race and try to close the gap. 13:05 is certainly no disaster and I think he is in better shape than that from what I watched tonight.
Rupp had to do A LOT of work completely in no man's land. I'm not sure if he thought the pace was too hot and he could reel the top pack in steadily, if he simply couldn't go with it, or if he just missed the break.
Is Farah stretching him too thin in workouts these days?
On a side note, for a guy that has every single resource to be had at his finger tips, I'm consistently surprised how poor his tactics are. He is completely frantic trying to position himself at the bell in international races with a lot of guys still around. Such a waste of energy. Watch the 5k at the London Olympics. Atrocious tactics!

Think that rupp will find the missing speed come worlds
with a very well timed cycle to peak, of fore-mentioned
substance.
exact same thing as what is giving sprinters there speed
kind of makes sense .
800m record eat you heart-out ,mo is coming for you !!!
That's what I saw too - plus you don't just wheel in twenty meters on five guys going 12:45-pace (as they were for the first kilometers). Rupp sat on the wrong back for the first laps today, still managed to go solo for the rest with a better final time than Gebrehiwot did when he went solo up front for about the same length about a month ago.
Well, if so he'll probably have Rupp run a HM first, maybe like Farah did in London this year by signing up for the full distance race and step of it halfways according to plan. Maybe he'll even be there in London pacing Farah for the first half of his full distance debut, though as an American he'd probably get MUCH more money and MUCH more PR for Nike if he runs half the Boston Marathon with some charity twist from both himself and former winner Al Sal.

and when they develop a test?
and re-test stored sample 8 years later
I disagree. They are good at mile time trials. I would not count on them to do in a slow paced mile what they did in the 10k.

It doesn't seem likely to me that the 27-year-old 10000m silver medalist would give up on the track after having a single mediocre year (if it even ends up being mediocre). I would wager on him focusing on the track through at least Rio, even if he runs a marathon or two in the meantime.
Rupp went through 3k in about 7:45, which is 61's (which is 12:55 pace). The leaders went through in about 7:41/42. For the last 2k, Rupp ran 5:20, which is '63's (the leaders ran 5:10 or 62's). So either he slowed down because he couldn't keep himself in close enough contention to go with the lead pack, or the 61 pace took it out of him and he's still not there yet. I would think that 7:45 would be a cake walk from him since he ran 7:30 months ago.
I guess I just kind of don't understand. He ran 3:50 (57.5's) and 7:30 (60's) indoors months ago. Why are slower paces taking it out of him now? Is his body tired? Not dosing enough thyroid meds?
Has Salazar made any statements about Rupp's performance?
I'm sure Salazar is aiming for Rupp to go for the gold, and I think his training is more ambitious this year than last. Let's see what happens when he's truly tapered, there's plenty of time.
Mo must be on a similar schedule, so that shows just how incredible he is right now.
