I am sure there are standards but what do athletes (sprinter in this case) and their coaches and managers think the world wants to discuss a week or so after some of the biggest names in sprinting have tested positive for banned substances?

I'd walk out, too, as would most athletes.
It's childish to flounce out. There have been lots of positive tests recently; it's a big topic; the press have a legitimate interest in asking questions.
Look at Chris Froome. He's asked doping questions in interviews every day. The TdF is a far bigger world sporting event than anything in T&F with the possible exception of the Olympics. He doesn't have a strop about it - he just says his bit about being clean and moves on. He understands that these questions are going to be asked and you don't do anything to help your cause by acting like a prima donna.
ROTFL.
You just did, moron.
You don't personally know anyone coaching or running with NOP, and yet you offered your OPINION that the group is clean. An OPINION with no grounding in evidence.

Terrible PR move on her part. Might as well scream "Excuse me, I'm trying to hide something, must be on my way now".
If she's not on drugs, she sure gives a lot of outward hints that's she's doing something sketchy. Definitely not a fan after her last ~18 months.
Definitely. Disgrace to track.
Someday in the near future someone will make a documentary about the demolition of the house of cards that is doping in track. This film will no doubt include clips of Jeter and her ilk storming out of press conferences. I can hardly wait.
There you go again, Salad-tosser. WRONG.

While you're looking for a counselor, tell us why you THINK the NOP is clean?
Follow-up question: Do you think that undisclosed thyroid supplementation is part of "clean" sport?

Saladbar, you are being as soft as the reporters at the press conference. Ask some direct questions:
How about being on Balco's list?
How about being part of Athleteic West who admitted PED use?
How about taking athletes to visit the best known expert on EPO, Dr. Gunderson?
Why is it that the thyroid issues were all diagnosed and treated by the same doctor and no other doctor has found anything or been involved?
Where there is that much smoke there is a fire.
Add to it the fact that new athletes join and have HUGE drops in times within months of joining. What did they do, decrease interval rest times from :90 to :60? What else causes such drops in just a few months because these athletes never tried to improve previously? There is A LOT of smoke and something is causing it.

Idk Jeter and didn't even know what she looked like, but sympathize with her walking out, which she did in a dignified manner.
The drug issues are stupid, and the drug questions are ignorant, promoted by the drug corporations and their mindless sheep drug believing promoters and followers.
I sympathize with athletes who want to keep their focus on athletics and to not waste their time with stupidity.
With this in mind, I applaud Jeter and Fraser for walking out of the venue and keeping their focus on athletics.
Your meaning is worthless as you don't believe in PEDs or antibiotics or 'anything' science related because of some ridiculous conspiracy theory.

The athletes are not politicians. They do not have to speak to the press. If the athletes are presenting themselves upon the expectation that certain rules be followed, then those rules should be followed. It is no different than expecting Asafa to not be taking 50 supplements and Tyson Gay not obtaining illegal treatments (DHEA is what I've heard) from an anti-aging doctor, and other idiotic things.
That's why we have these problems: People try to violate the rules.
And BTW, it should be pointed out that SAFP has tested positive (but for a painkiller) while Jeter has not, and it was SAFP, not Jeter, that the question was addressed to, probably because she has the same club and coach as Asafa.
What is wrong with you. I'm damn glad you're no professional athlete.
"Sprinters Carmelita Jeter and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce told a meet official they didn’t want to be asked questions about doping cases in track and field at a press conference Thursday."
There were no rules. They didn't want to talk about doping, and asked not to, but it wasn't a rule.
Jeter is the biggest cheat anyway, everyone knows it and this only makes her look more guilty. The fact that she doesn't understand that is laughable.
jeter is the most obvious doper i have ever seen...

I'm not even sure that there are men who look like those two, naturally. I know there aren't any women.
That said, their faces in that press conference looked guiltier than their bodies ever looked.
I hope I never have to watch them race again.
Not sure why you're dumping SAFP in with Jeter. She was obviously confused about whether the interview was over and even stood around for a minute before leaving. Didn't see any guilt on her pretty face.
Lazy stupid athletes.
So much to learn from cyclists.
If you want to cheat to get your results, lying about it on a daily basis, and understanding well what you're lying about, is part of the deal. You can't get the dope without the rapid rap of innocense. Your lies don't need to be super convincing, you just need to get them over your lips. Press and fans will be happy. Sponsors will pay you well, for a few lap per day and taking the needles in between, at coach-prescribed intervals.
Track has been blessed with decades of lax testing. And if there was a high-profile positive, there was often a dark side attached to it. Like the Lewis-Johnson thing. Ugly.
Now, Track may need to get used to cycling-level scrutiny, of samples, test timing OoC, and press performance.
How long do you expect to play this game at the top if you decide to not play with the rules? Others will step up, do the rap of innocense, and get your millions. A most inconvenient tester will arrive early morning to your house. No chance to take long showers (drink liters of warm water), or whatever. Just pee in the cup, right here, right now.
Up your doping game, or be out. And just needling ain't good enough, you need to do the rap. And then sleep 9 hours afterward, not battle your conscience. Sell your soul, give it your all to get the results, not just the crime, and try to get that most sought after accomplishment : remain clean in the public eye until you die of old age. How many have mastered that? Most only clean winning athlete losers. who actually worked hard on top of actual unique talent.

Salad tosser is not a homophobic term.
Relatedly, I saw a couple of interviews yesterday with Gatlin and am impressed with his intelligence and openness. He's quite a likeable guy and I agree with his views, except the one that Wada is doing a good job. The only job they're doing is trying to brainwash people and promoting the drugs.

people always liked gatlin...til he was busted. tis a shame - I would be a gatlin fan if were not a drug cheat.
as for wada, what would you have them do differently? clearly they have a new confidence.

Since the athletes are there focused on their own training and evenings... let me guess... uhhhhh... drugs????????
No, they want to do what they came there to do.
How stupid it is to think that everyone wants to talk about drugs.

Oh I'm a Gatlin fan already, now that I've seen him on video. Before that, since I don't watch sprinters, I didn't know who he was.
As to wada, I'd have them jump off a cliff.
why should journalists adhere to any rules limiting what they can ask at press conferences? then they would just be used and we wouldn't hear anything of interest. on the other hand, asking questions doesn't usually elucidate much at all at press conferences. real research into the backgrounds of those they know and do business with, the kind of journalism that barely ever happens, especially in sports, would tell us something interesting.
