Plus two NCAA titles at 1500m. More pressure than 99.99 percent of LR posters have handled.
I thought that 1:46 low 800m a couple of days ago was a good sign. Fast but not too fast that close to the goal race.
No one at Nike is holding out on Leo for being a hispanic immigrant, least of all his fellow hispanic immigrant Alberto Salazar. It's pretty clear at this point that he's just looking for more money and they don't want to give it to him. Maybe if he moved to Eugene and peaked for the Pre Classic every year he'd be worth more to them.
Back? Silver medal last summer. Recently 2nd at USAs. Where did he go?
i have always believed in leo. he runs good when it matters. he can do a shitty 4.00 mile in apirl but come august and champs he is there and he is there to fight for the medal. i think he resemble a bit like rui silva, anyway remember him? both in style and size. i think the deal with sponsors is that he turned down more or less all offers and now no one is willing to offer him. he talked about being rocky remember? so i think something like that has happened. maybe it was so low of an offer that leo felt it like an insult but in hindsight it prolly would have been better to accept what was offered. its better to get something than nothing. after all, its not a well paid sport...
considering what a feat it is to even get to the champs i think its a very good record he has. also take into account his PB, there are a few americans as fast as leo and worldwide there are many so on the paper maybe he is only the fourth american? but when its fight (nite) he will fight til he goes down bleeding.
Approaching this season like a pro. Run fast when it matters.
Hombre! it says BACK not BLACK.

Where? Well, he did go to Eugene, OR, for about 4 minutes.

Note that I cited major races. Who cares about early/mid season rust busters? Leo isn't consistent, people know this. It's the norm for him. Having a bad diamond league race and coming back to run well in another doesn't mean he is now "back."

Why, of course Leo's consistent. He only shows up for even races. He bails for add ones.
Paris was an even race. Now he needs to go to Monaco and get his stinker in, and he'll be all set to medal in Moscow.

Manzano is definitely a master of running fast when it counts. If anyone needed more proof, this season is it. Racks up some Diamond League points with WC approaching.
Lopez looked pretty good too and got the A. Let's hope Centrowitz is not injured, because the bronze looks attainable for the Americans this year. (Though I think Kiprop and Kiplagat are still out of reach on a good day.)
Soulieman presents a serious challenge as well. If he maintains form, or god forbid Mak-Daddy finds his Olympic form it's going to be extremely difficult for any of our guys to medal.

Well, I think that's exactly what it means. You even used the word "back" when you said "coming back to run well ... "
That's precisely what Manzano is BACK does mean. It's not a diss on the guy at all, IMO.
He has the major podium finishes, and he's 1.7 seconds from the American mile record. With the sponsorship drop, he has the motivation to surpass himself. I hope he lands a non-sports shoe contract.
for anyone of reasonable fitness, standard equivalent is 2x 800m = 1500m. That Leo ran 1.46 last week says that he was capable (even with his poor 5k at Carlsbad) of 3.32-33. That others can't seem to match this co-efficient, makes me wonder why? High schoolers may have trouble with this, but developed pros shouldn't.
Coe should have been able to run 3.24 (as El G wanted to run), that he didn't even come close (barely under 3.30)questions his training for the 1500m (even with his two Olympic gold) and that he really focused on the 800m. Cram and Aouita too should have been able to run 3.26-27.
The 4-second rule (for Coe: 51 +4= 55 = 3.26) which Horwill espousedalsao says that he should have been faster.
Leo is right where he should be, and seems to know when to peak for the big races (unlike Webb!!). He is a 1500m guy, not an 800m guy or a 5000m guy (unlike Lagat for the latter).
coach d, why do you bother. When I see your name as a poster, I ignore the post. You've proven to know what you are talking about, maybe 10% of the time. You are dead wrong about 70% of the time, and your posts made no sense (when I bothered to read them) about 20% of the time. Your track record is about as miserable as one can find here--and this is LR, where most posters are idiots.
1/10
the fact that manzano's 800 and 1500 (as a 1500 guy) match up doesn't mean that it would work for an 800 guy. it probably works best for 3k-5k guys.
besides, neither of these races were PRs for him. his 800m is much better than his 1500m PR.

I'd love to see Leo win a medal, get offered an American and a Mexican flag, but just take the Stars and Stripes.
Unfortunately I believe he would take both flags.
Really??? It actually bothered you to see Leo carry an American and Mexican flag at the Olympics?

If you review the record you will find that he is right (again). Anyone who doesn't know about Leo's hot and cold racing record doesn't know enough about the sport to post here. And I think he is a fan of Leo, but just stating the obvious.
And, yes, you are an idiot.
