Cool stuff if we don't say so ourselves.
Also for the record, we say it's equal to a 1:43.27.

What was the Kenyan's final time in that race??
Dude had a 200m running start, who cares?

What was the 400 split in that 1:13.2 (600 split) race? I think that split has just been misquoted over the years, as I'm sure he wouldn't have hit 46/47 thru 400m. Happy to be wrong here.
I'm not at home, but the book 'wizards of he middle distance' should have it.

Was the Kenyan John Kipkurgat at the 1974 Commonwealth Games
in Christchurch NZ???????
What's your evidence that Kipkurgat ran a 1:13.20 split in 1974? His first lap was only 51.5. If he ran 1:13.2 at 600 do you think that he ran a 21.7 split (400 to 600) against the wind?
As referenced in the front page story it was Kipkurgat but it was not at Commonwealth.
It allegedly happened in a 800m race in Trinidad & Tobago on March 23, 1974. The alleged 600m split is a 1:13.2 hand time (not 1:13.20 AT).
Also, there doesn't seem to be any confirmed finishing time. A poster in a previous thread on the subject said "nearer 1:50" and a later poster changed that to "over 1:50". The current front page story restates that as a fact. But if there is an actual time out there, I don't see it.
FWIW.
A more interesting thought is this for those who believe we will be seeing a sub 1.40 800m soon.
In looking at Rudishas closing 200m ability from all his world record totes he is consistently in the 26.5-26.7 range. Assuming he can hold that speed (unlikely he would be able to increase it and if he did surely by not much), then 1.13.2 - 1.13.4 (the times we are talking about here for the alleged Kipkurgat 600m and Solomons flat 600) would be what Rudisha would need to hit in order to break that 100 second barrier.
Now that is scary.
1:40.9 solo after heats is worth 139.9 ish no question.
kipkiter and rudisha - and maybe even coe with perfect conditions and pacing could go 1:39.9.
problem is none of the said guys above have near zero acumen to draft properly.
probably they never practiced running close behind anyone else preferring to run "free". and when they did try and draft in a record attempt, they ran sub-optimally.
at the end of the day, track would be pretty boring if they stuck to the quoted calculated scientific approach above. i'd rather watch chaos in action.
however, if you want to pur together a pre-arranged time trial record attempt, why not do it right?
