After watching the USA 5000 video, the way he picked up the pace was great. Dude's a total stud.
What would have happened if Ben didn't surge with a mile to go? Do you think they would have waited as long as a lap or two, and we would have seen a race well over 15 minutes?
He is just like Pre all right - finishes fourth to superior runners, yet is endlessly hyped up by clueless fanboys.
In the 5000, True didn't share the delusion that he could let the pace continue to drag and then outkick Rupp, Lagat, and everyone else in the race. Rather than take a chance with that, he counted on the his superior fitness to winnow the field, which it did. That was sensible racing that increased his odds of a top 3 or 4 finish, whether or not it actually resulted in him getting on the team.
I'm sure they probably would have went eventually, but with how they were running it wouldn't have surprised me to see them keep jogging until 1 or 2 to go.
Settle down. True isn't a 7 time NCAA Champion who held every AR from 2000 to 10000m yet.

Make sure you put a breathalyzer on his car ignition and keep him away from roads with big rocks on the side.
True knows he's not on the level of Rupp/Ritz/Lagat yet but he's driven to get to that level. He's doing the training necessary to take him there and he's not afraid to race. Nobody should be bashing him. His goal is to go under 13:05 this summer and to break 13 next year.

Ben true outkicked milers in 3:40 race he should have waited for lagat to move and aimed for third place which he could have gotten. Now he has to wait and see if ryan hill runs under 1320

Does that mean he drinks and drives?

He picked it up because he realized if he let the race drag out any longer he would have been smoked. Actually, he was smoked and no matter how the race could have unfolded he wouldn't have done squat.. He is washed up.
stick with the barbies and makeup, junior.

Don't you have to have done better at some point to be washed up? He's doing the best he ever has and improving.
Ben True ran a pr for 1500 meters over the last 1500 in that 5,000. 3:38.6 to Lagat's 3:37.2. He ran 3:40.1 at Mt Sac this year with 3:00 at 1200, so I guess he was faster than 3:40 anyway.

No.
True is the g'damn man. He isn't Pre.
And for anyone to say he is "washed up" is just ignorant. The guy has really come onto the scene this year and made a name for himself for running tough and now officially the 4th best 5 and 10k guy in the country. He may not have the best kick, but when it comes down to gritting your teeth (World XC, Adidas GP, doubling 5k and 10k in the heat at USATFs), he trumps all.
ben true could actually tear rupp apart in a legit fight. man vs. little boy
