Knowing a lot of stuff? Using big words? Thinking a lot? Doing hard math problems? Having a big number for an IQ?
What does intelligence mean to you?

I have no idea, to be honest. But I will say that as soon as I hear someone say, "I don't do well on standardized tests but I have a high "emotional IQ"" I tend to think they are a dumbas s.
intelligence is the ability to function in ones current world/culture. it's not always relative, for example what a 25 year old male in Los Angeles needs to know to survive is different from a 25 y/o male in Papua New Guinea.
remember this....rarely do the most intelligent, smartest, or top in the class....end up the most successful!!!!!!!!!

I understand the sentiment that you are getting at and there is a certain truth to it, but overall this is patently false.
there are clearly many different dimensions of it, but it's the basic capaity of your mind

I think you may be a little confused; the example you give is the very definition of relative intelligence! I think you mean that "it's not absolute".

That depends how you define "successful".
IQ is a like a multidimensional space with a certain topology.
It can even be endowed with a metric and so you can measure
intelligence by the distance to the origin. if the space
is locally flat, the axes would be IQ, EQ etc.
There are different types of intelligence. For example being able to memorize information is one. Being able to apply knowledge to solve a problem is another.
I think the defining characteristics of successful individuals is work ethic and persistence, not intelligence.
Intelligence's source is based on memory - your short term memory. Think of short-term memory ability as being able to store a number of variables in your short-term memory (say within a minute) to use extensively in an algorithm. What I'm saying is that intelligence for a human could be compared to a computers RAM.
it is like running - you only get so far with talent (IQ) or
hard work (work ethic). To be truly successful (mathematician/physicist/Wall street guy) you need both.

oh Great! That means all we need to do is add more RAM to computers and we'll have super advanced AI and terminators and iRobots and stuff! I never knew!
I think a large part of intelligence is the ability to reason, particularly in a complex manner. It's the main thing that sets us apart from animals, and is the main goal in research with apes, etc.

No. You need to add more "RAM" to your brain. Idiot.
