This documentary had its one night airing in theaters nationwide tonight. I went and saw it. It was a bit more dynamic than the original.
They had Julie Weiss, who ran the 52 marathons in one year for pancreatic cancer awareness. Her presence was annoying in the film. Good cause, but she acts too circus like while running. The other folks profiled were interesting to varying degrees.
I wanted to see this and totally forgot about it! Will it be in theaters again or on DVD?
It should make its way to DVD sometime.
I thought the elite athletes were interesting, the every day runners not so much.
I agree that the whiny hobby jogger wouldn't shut up throughout the race.
The New York City marathon's old school footage was lovely as well as the international elite's daily life.
I ended up paying a ticket after already buying the advance tickets because I didn't bring the printed confirmation email code on hand. My ID and credit card wasn't enough for them >.>

what time of day is the Rome marathon? looked like it was late in the morning. and it got sunny and warm.
really liked the Ukranian dude and the Rwandan girl.
also the old Italians.
but the movie makers were trying to include all types to appeal to as many in the audience as possible.

Didn't get the inclusion of the Italian woman in her early 40's. She wasn't interesting. Mimmo and his 72 year old cousin were interesting. I almost fell out of my chair when Julie Weiss said she had qualified for Boston. I fully expected her to give the, "I got in because of all the charitable work I was doing" line. Still her sort of personality is just annoying for the sport of running. Just shut up and run.
I wasn't sympathetic to the other American runner Cliff. He seemed like an okay guy but it seemed odd how as a former track coach he found the marathon to be so difficult. He has some nice roads in yet undeveloped parts of central New Jersey on which to run.
The Ukranian guy reminded me a bit of Daniel Njenga from the first SotM marathon. Always the bridesmaid.
I was entertained by the barbie/fake boob/valley girl and her very odd coach/boyfriend. Comical.
I wish they profiled more elites but glad they left the Ethiopians and Kenyans out of it.
Also wondered about the NJ guy. Seemed odd he had so much difficulty.

I liked it. You have to go into it though knowing that they have to appeal to a wider demographic than just hard core runners (although still only 50 people in the theater). I loved the stuff on the elites but could appreciate the others as well (maybe except for Barbie, but even for her, I had to admire that she kept at it for 19 tries to get her BQ.). Makes you realize that we take completing a marathon for granted but running in general is a gift.
BTW, apparently the Ukrainian guy had already made an Olympic team having gone to Beijing.
I saw it last night and enjoyed it, EXCEPT FOR BARBIE. I couldn't stand her, I don't care if you're trying to appeal to a greater audience. She ran a 5:33 marathon. "ran". The best part of the entire film was when the old italian man yelled at her to be quiet, to stop talking.
I hope there is a Spirit part 3, but I just wish they would focus on elites and people shooting to qualify for Boston.
The "marathongoddess" seemed like she was on a holiday a week plan with that program. She was way annoying. The other lady I liked. Definitely jealous of the soft roads she was running on.
Two editions of this documentary (liked them both) but neither had the local fast guy type covered yet.
The small crowd at the theatre where I viewed it kept waiting for the movie to begin, then someone finally called the theatre and ask them if something was wrong. Apparently they forgot about the movie and just failed to start it. I told the lady who made the call it would have been funny if they'd asked her to turn her cell phone off. Not sure it had to do with the late start but as we left we received a coupon for another movie. Worth the wait if that was the reseason for the coupon.

They tried that in the first film with Ryan Bradley trying to qualify for Boston. He got hurt midway through training and then they were stuck with a character who wasn't going to run the actual marathon. I found it disappointing in the credits of the first film that he ran Boston anyway (as a charity runner). Sold himself short.

If they have a III, maybe feature the Nikemans, TXRunnerGirls, the Greg Metcalf and Alberto bashers who troll here, while running 100 miles a week...
