Possible to run with a diet low on carbs?

You don't need to cut out carbs, you need to cut out sugar.

The flabby stomach is probably genetic (I should know).

You need to buy a serious book on diet and exercise.

Don't think low carb, think right carb. You need enough carbs to replace the glycogen you burn (about half the fuel on most runs and not much at all during the rest of the day) - no need for carbs beyond glycogen storage capacity (no "high carb" endurance athletes can tell me why eat carbs beyond that when, after glycogen storage, it turns to fat anyway, and a more storable and less immediately useable, fat.

Your glycogen storage capacity is limited to about 2000 total cals (500 liver, the rest in muscles) and muscle glycogen can't be moved from one muscle to another.

I am 6'4" and 160 (and can bench my weight about 8 times) and I eat 3500 cals a day on 70-80 miles a week. I eat about 1000 cals of carbs a day (white rice and fruit and glucose, no "healthy whole grains") and 120g of protein. Most of my calories come from fat - MCT oil, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts and nut oils, meat, eggs, etc. I do eat a little dairy.

I'd say no, unless your body is very efficient in utilising carbs. It's better to get more fiber, and cut down on sugar. Though if you're currently going to work on building strength rather than endurance, I'd say a high-protein, low-carb diet will work wonders in terms of results. Of course, this can't be a permanent solution to your diet.

I am experimenting on a high-protein, low-carb diet since the last 1 month. And I find it very exhausting to run anything more than 12-15k even at easy effort. But I can feel my strength has improved leaps and bounds, and I find it very satisfying to work intervals or short tempo runs with this diet.

Not trolling looking for genuine advice.

Not looking to bulk up at all really. It would be nice to get a little cut in the stomach and tone my arms a bit but I am still focused on running (Aiming for a 15:30 5k this Fall, definitely not in shape at the moment).

Most of the runners that have some flab despite training hard and doing everything right are probably on the left tail of the insulin resistance distribution and would do better on a higher fat diet. The problem is they see skinny runners (already preselected biologically for good carb tolerance) and think they should do what they do. The real curse is these folks also tend to be more sensitive to the fat-storing effects of cortisol, so running more just exacerbates the problem.
