Since leaving Oregon in 2010 she has trained in Los Angeles with coach Quincy Watts while also pursuing master's degrees in public health administration and social work from San Diego State.
If that sounds complicated, well, it has been.
She trained in the early mornings, drove to San Diego for school in the afternoons and, when time became an issue, had a standing invitation from former UO teammate A.J. Acosta's family to stay in their home in Oceanside, Calif.
Acosta surprised her with the offer when Baker told him of her postgraduate plans while still at Oregon.
"We were on the same team but we didn't talk every single day," she said. "His parents have treated me like their own child. I have my own room and everything."
