lemaitre isn't really white, he's more pink.
For instance I don't ever expect a ginger to run sub 10.
This surprised me, because it appeared to me that Lemaitre was more of a 200 meter type guy who was fast once he's at his top speed, than a guy who explodes out of the blocks for 100 meters.
I wonder if the tail wind helped him out of the blocks, thus enabling him to hit a high speed earlier than normal in a 100 meter. On the other hand Gatlin is always fast out of the blocks so the wind doesn't help him as much.
Gatlin has run fast 3 straight weeks. He's starting a new block of training to peak at Worlds. Big deal. Lemaitre is hoping he can make the final.
I seriously doubt that Gatlin is starting a new block of training 2 weeks before US Nationals. I think Lemaitre is aiming at the 200...and some of the Jamaicans (not Bolt) are worried about him.
the jamaicans are worried alright
but not about lemaitre
holy sh*t he got run down.
Did you SEE how far back he was! I want SprintGeezer's take on this.
SprintGeezer is probably crying somewhere.
Reminds me of Carl Lewis.
Wow! Lemaitre was miles behind at 50m, but once he got going!... I hope he makes a breakthrough over 200 this year and can mix it with the top US and Jamaican guys. A new face in the mix will make it more interesting.

Not so sure how reliable that +2.9 reading is. From what I understand, there were swirling winds there so who knows at what point that may have been taken. Look at the women's triple jump...winds from -1.9 to +1.4
Lemaitre showed some amazing top end speed regardless of conditions in catching and passing Collins and Gatlin.
Wind speeds are averaged over a 10 sec period. So a change in wind isn't a problem. Wind gages (ALL OF THEM) are inaccurate for other reasons though.

Interesting! Are the wind speeds recorded at a single location or multiple locations alongside the track?

Single location per event. A number of gauges at a meet, but one per event, taken over a period of specified time.
Not sure that its 10 seconds as the race is shorter than that.
If he doped and lifted properly, he might be up there with Bolt and Blake...

I wasn't surprised, Gatlin was tweeting so much about the local food last night...he probably ate too much, and jet lag got him too, lol.
