Florida and Texas A&M just tied for the win after Texas A&M dropped the baton.
It should go to the team who has the most event wins.

I'd go with the most individual scorers.
Line up both teams no matter what event to run 400m on the track. Score it like a XC meet 10 deep. It could all come down to 2 shot putters lumbering down the stretch for last place.
Head coaches decathlon.
I think there should be a sudden-death DMr tie-breaker. That would be cool as hell.
Seems as if there'd need to be a sequence of tie-breakers, the last of which would be a Tarmoh-Felix 100m race (sides decided by coin flip)

Only on Letsrun would a retarded statement like this stand. Or dyestat, I guess.
tug of war

You mean they just give the trophy to the favourites?
Both teams had the scored the same number of points. That's a tie.
There've been ties for NCAA championships in cross country, too, which is exactly correct IMHO. The sixth-runner tiebreaker (common in HS meets) is just idiotic. Those sixth runners *already* had a chance to score for their teams (and didn't), and to add to other teams' scores (and probably did); why should the sixth-best runner on a team get a second bite of the apple?
Name the year that there was a tie at NCAA cross....
Why does there have to be a tie-breaker? Why not just shake hands and congratulate each other being worthy rivals?

This year. Haverford and Calvin tied for second at the DIII championships.
This is correct. Team scores for a non-true team event based on individual efforts.
They're in cahoots. A and M dropped the stick on purpose so their SEC buddies could get 1st place too.
Now the SEC will brag about winning the NCAA title twice in the same year.
Jossi is right. He is always right.

Has a marathon ever been run on a track? And, if so, has anyone ever been lapped, then came back and won?
Yes, it has, even indoors!

distance is under emphasized in track. This is a good idea. The tying teams each can send 3 runners for the 105 lap race.
It should all come down to a 30x1 relay
30 man relay , each man running a 100 for a total of 3000m
a true test of team depth, it could come down to 2 XC guys or throwers sprinting down the home stretch.
My high school athletic conference had something like this when I ran, a 16x100 at the end of dual/tri regular season meets unscored just for fun
It's kinda like the old PK issue in soccer. What can be a true test to determine who is the better team?
Tough call. Something decathlon-related or relay related.
Partial to Florida, but it seems to me the team who wins both relays should get the nod. I already think a relay win should count for more points than an individual win, anyway.
