Galen Rupp WILL win gold medals in both the 5K and 10K in Moscow

if Rupp AND Kenenisa peak very well this season, there is no reason to believe these two are not getting worse than bronze (factoring Farah in there as well).

As for the 5000, Gebrhiwet knows how to race tactically and in turn could really cause some damage. Rupp could very well respond, but he then will have to deal with the possibility of a sprint finish.

Gebrhiwet has yet to prove that he can win a tactical race. Olympic 5000m? 13:41?

I never make predictions; I just watch the parade and hope for the best.

It is too early to tell what Galen can do this year.

It would be sweet to see him win a WC's, but there is a lot of E. African competition.

Typo, my bad. However, that typo does imply that Rupp is 'stealing' some of Salazar's legacy, but I believe that their success is mutual.

He is '18' after all, so he is definitely learning. Watching him run in Boston was a clear indicator he at least knows how NOT to leave it late against kickers. Don't be surprised to see him learn from that recent loss to Yenew and show something in Moscow.

No he won't. Rupp STILL does not know how to run tactical compact 5000m races. He spends most of his time out in the middle of the pact getting his energy sucked by the other runners. Then on the just before the last lap, he comes wide in lane three and tries to sprint. He just seems to waste a lot of energy running like that. No amount of Ivan Drago type training can undue stupid tactics. Rupp will always get beat in the 5k unless he changes his tactic. Physicallly, he might be ready but mentally.... I don't think so.

i lol'd at the drago reference, but i don't think that's how he trains.

He cannot close fast enough off of a slow 9600m. In particular

shifting gears like Seb. he might medal.

Rupp, Gebriwhet, alamirew, Soi, Farah are all contenders.

Some of them will perform poorly due to non-peaking

issues.

Doubling is ridiculously hard to do. Even Farah needed assistance and luck last year having Rupp run blocking for him and then Geb being trapped through out most of the final lap. You either need to be great and that kind of help or you need to be insanely great like Bekele was in 08'.

I will just say that I think Rupp's chances in the 5000M are much better than people think it is. Its kind of like Flagpole with the stock market. When you look at the overall trend with Rupp there is no reason he can't do better when you look at all his other performances.
