No surprises here. Webb still totally lost.
I think Solinsky had a solid performance and the best of the season. That indicates around a sub 4 mile in a race that was only won in 3:38. He lost to mostly milers. Would of liked to see 3:39-3:40 but it wasn't like it was a 3:45.
Webb is just lost, I doubt he will figure it out with the group he trains with now. I think he would of been better off with Salazar or Vig.
Bumb, solid day..decent wheels. Again, only a 3:38.high race so decent. Rupp set a new standard for range on the track but that's a solid time after a 10k a few weeks ago. The race just wasn't fast.

So converted, he's running 10 seconds slower than he did at the same meet 13yrs ago in HS.
Not great for any of Jerry's guys. I'm sure they thought they'd at least be challenging for the win in a 3:38 high race. Not bad either tho for Bumbi or Solinsky. Webb...
considering what he's been running at 5000m and how slow he's run some early races in the past, webb's 3:45 is not terrible, just 3 sec behind solinsky, and we know that webb can drop 7 or 8 seconds in a matter of weeks. He should keep at it. That 5000m thing wasn't working for him anyway.
Webb is a 10Ker (who just hasn't done a 10K yet).
Sure he has, and beat Ritz as well.

27:34 I believe. Back in April of 2006.

That's correct. And he closed the last 400 in 53. Brutal race.
I really wish we could close the book on Webb. 3:45 is not good for a guy who's run 3:30!
I want to know why NIKE is still holding onto him.

Because people like you are still talking about him.
Hey, at least he beat his mile PR time.
the whole race was really slow and boring
Webb was slow, but not as bad as that time suggests. Tactically, he ran a really poor race. He went to the back, and tucked in behind AJ who was the real disappointment of the evening (if AJ is even capable of disappointing anymore). By the time Webb decided to sprint around AJ, he was already about 50m back from the leaders, but closed with good speed.
I'd estimate he could have run at least 3:40 tonight if he hadn't been so dumb... for whatever that's worth.

t.
Would HAVE been better off.
Alan needs to get his muscles back. This whole thing about "losing is superfluous muscle" under Salazar's guidance was completely misguided.
I really feel sorry for the dude.
It was difficult to watch last night. He went straight to the back...didn't even try and go with the front guys.
I have rooted for and believed in Webb ever since I first started following the sport (around 2003). Even with his rocky career, I always believed he could come back and run well again, maybe not 1:43/3:30/3:46 etc, but be a true world class athlete anyway and make another Olympic final, but 3:45 sucks, honestly, for a former 3:30 guy anyway. Personally I don't see the point in even lining up if you're only in shape to run 15 seconds off your PR in a 1500m race. This is the same guy who ran 1:55 for 800m only to go 1:52 the next week (or thereabouts; I don't remember), so maybe he'll drop a decent time soon, but really, 3:45 is bad. His lack of anything noteworthy the last several years (other than his 3:36 at the end of the summer a few years ago) is not promising at all. It suggests his career is, or should be, over, as much as I hate to say it. If he can't pull together at least a 3:34 or a 13:10 by the end of the summer, I'd say it's time to hang 'em up. I would LOVE to see him get back into decent form, but given his performances the last several years I just don't see it happening. 2007 was 6 years ago. That's a pretty long dry spell, but then again Adam Goucher went through a similar dry spell only to come back and run 13:10 on a stress fracture and place 6th at World XCs at the age of 31(?), so it's potentially not too late. I can only hope he gets things figured out soon though.
