If you listen to the interviews he gives (Flotrack), he was made to run for Wetmore. He's the first big-time talent to go to Colorado since Ritz.

one rabbit isn't enough, even with perfect pacing. most of these guys need to be in a fast pack to get under 4, which is partially why Webb ran so fast at Pre. they need to be drafting the pack from start to finish and just get pulled along for the ride.
the most annoying thing about this isn't that it wasn't setup properly, or that the energy of the meet sucked, or the weather sucked; it's that the brojos are probably happy nobody broke 4. the biggest legit running site on the web and they crap on running whenever possible. i don't think they ever realize it either. calling these guys non-elites, what a joke.

I thought Montoya ran up to 110 mpw over the summer. Saarel is quite a talent and has been doing some impressive things at 4,500'. Put him in Pre or another mile with perfect conditions and a rabbit, and I think he is worth a second per lap faster.
Its win-win. They enjoy being right and celebrating when they are wrong.

Arroyo looked just plain flat. I dont think milage is a problem, as I've heard he does around 50+mpw. (not too much for HS). I do think his race plan was a little odd for peaking for this race. Doing triples one moth ago doesnt seem like a great idea, even then I was getting a bit worried. I think he's a monster talent, just no where close in this race. Coming from FLA, the weather may have been tough for him
Some people just do not get how hard this is, Rudisha who was sure to go right around 1:43 flat or better in good weather, went 1:45.x
Extrapolate that for milers that are or may have been 3:55 guys who have run that once or twice even, they would have never run that today even with perfect pace making.
So, you have guys who have never run 4:00.x for the mile, on a day like today, what were they going to run? 4 guys under 4? Please, this was not happening, give Saarel credit for one of the most solid 4:02.x's run under not so good conditions.
Will people please accept that Saarel is the best miler/2 miler this year in the HS ranks? Too bad he didn't run a 3:59.99 - would have got me $1000 from the brojos (yeah, right!)
Are you all aware that Saarel also broke Luke Puskedras 1600m record at Utah State championships this year(4:07.95) Also broke the state record in the 800 (1:51.13). All these times at altitude! Although does anyone here know why he scratched in the 3200 at the state meet????
Saarel said in his flotrac interview that he was done for the year so it looks like he will not make another attempt.

For your information Montoya was doing 100 mile weeks this past summer.

This could be for real though. It's hard to believe centro was a strong 2 miler and (I guess you could say) moved down in distance.

What a stupid comment. "With any kind of respectable pacing they would have done under for sure." For sure? Like all of them? That is really stupid comment. Only 4 american preps have gone under all time - and you suggesting "all would have gone under.? Like 12?
No, you stupid f**k, use your brain. Obviously I meant one of them. I worded my sentence poorly. Kill yourself
Anyone else think the announcing on flotrack video was a little overdramatic? The guy needs to be realistic, there werent going to be any 53 second last laps (to get under 4) from a group of high school guys at that pace.
Pacer did decent though as it was already strung out on the first two laps
more mileage for Montoya? your stupid right, he runs over 100 mile weeks. You cant blame a 4:05 on lack of training, just not the best execution and mental toughness to go on the 3rd lap.
No love for the fastest Junior in the field, Blake Haney!? He looked great up until 300m to go, considering he was injured most of XC this past year he ran really well!
You can't tell anyone's problem from one race.
Especially when these guys never get to face this type of competition or any competition during the year.
