Today at the Oregon HS state meet 2 all-time records were set and neither female is heading to Eugene for college.
In the 3000 South Eugene High's Erin Clark ran 9:32 for 3k and is going to Boulder to run for the Buffs.
Rachel Proteau of South Albany High leaped 6-1 today and is signed with Kansas State.
So despite all their current success the Oregon women can't keep the top 2 female performers in state.
This is not a bad thing. The high jumper Proteau is going to arguably the best jumping school in the nation. Erin Clark is going to a great distance running school. On top of that, she gets to experience living in a different state and meeting new people. If you spent any length of time in Eugene you understand that living in south eugene is essentially living on the UO campus. Not everyone is meant to live their entire life where they grew up.

Exactly. This is nothing new. Tons of South Eugene guys and girls headed to Colorado or Arizona...

I expect many Oregon prep athletes will go to Colorado to enjoy the liberal pot laws. Wetmore is using that as a recruiting ploy.
It's not Oregon fault they want to train and go to crappy programs. Besides Oregon inked there best class ever this year i think the Ducks will be just fine. :) Now ladies time for that triple crown in one year Cross,Indoors and Outdoors National Championships.

unfortunately I believe it's still a violation of the NCAA policies

Many South Eugene stars went out of State: Dirk Lakeman and Jeff Hess to Arizona, John Gustafson to Indiana, Steve Surface to Washington, Seth Brown to Florida, the list goes on. When Bill McChesney chose Oregon over Arizona and Penn State, I was a little surprised, only in that the pressure he was putting on himself being the hometown prep hero, and with all the established stars-Chapa, Salazar, Clary, etc. already at Oregon.
