This came up recently and I'm not sure the answer: Can meet directors obligate/require runners move out of lane one once lapped?
My inclination is no, as nowhere in the IAAF rulebook are there rules that govern what a lapped runner can/cannot do, aside from providing assistance.
I'd imagine a meet can ask runners to move, but it doesn't seem as if there would be grounds to sanction them for failing to do so, at least not in IAAF rules context (could probably do things like not re-inviting said runners).
Anybody have an actual answer?
