Solo, in the rain. Pretty legit

only if she's a freshman or sophomore...
Ya only 20 seconds behind Cain. I'm sure Cain is worried.
Did Cain run a 4:19 1600? Um, no.
She is a sophomore! That might have been a national class record!!
pretty close
Her personal best for the mile is 4:28 and change. Drop about 2 seconds for the 1600 (being generous) and she is still 7 seconds away.

Convert it to a 1500m and it's about 4:19-4:20 at best.
This is FIFTEEN SECONDS slower than Cain...
To put it into perspective, it's Webb running his 3:53 HS Record versus another male runner going 4:08...
I'm sure you're just being intentionally asinine, but her recent 4:04 is worth about a 4:23 1600. Not quite 20 seconds, sure, but worlds ahead of 4:39.
Cain has been in high profile races. Throw Ef in one of these and she runs faster. Both sophomores, it would be cool to watch.

4:04 is worth a 4:23 mile not 1600.
Solo in rain v. rabbited in pro race is probably worth 5 seconds, which puts her a few seconds behind Cain's PR of last week. So maybe not worlds apart, but not quite in the same league.
Being coached and running with your team in HS, enjoying your HS experience, not having every resource known to man VS the opposite = 16.78 seconds

Yeah, I don't think Cain is worried.
(Efraimson ran 4:19.54 for 1500m earlier in the season, by the way)
Not a sophomore class record. But it is a Washington Sophomore record, and 4A State Meet record.
Alexa Efriamson is a great high school runner.
Mary Cain has the A standard.
Efraimson has a long way to go to be a threat to Cain.

You'd like it better if Cain was NOT doing everything she could to fulfill her potential? If she somehow makes it to the finals at Worlds, what will your reaction be? "Nice, but she really should be focusing on getting ready for her home invitational in September"? I think she has bigger f*cking fish to fry than running with her high school team. Do you think her Kenyan counterparts are worried about scoring points at duel meets twice a week all season? And who the hell says she's not enjoying her high school experience? Just because she's not having the exact same high school experience that YOU had doesn't mean she's not enjoying herself. Christ almighty, I'll never understand the mentality of people like you.
I can't stand all the whiny babies. Its not fair she gets trained by professionals and all the pro treatment. Does everyone forget that she was already the faster miler in high school history as a sophomore. No one is in the same league as her, why should she stick around and run time trials for the next two years when she has the opportunity to continue to develop as a runner and realize her fullest potential.
By the way I hate the logic that people who train hard in high school improve less in college. Of course they do, there is less room to improve if you run closer to your potential. Thats a mathematical fact not evidence of burnout. I also dislike the whole, she should be on a team for the social aspect. I'm pretty sure the olympics-bound girl should focus on running and not on her social life.
If anyone is a happy camper, it's Mary Cain. She's taking her 15 minutes and really enjoying it. Whether she runs high school, college or pro, this moment in the sun could end any second. Might as well make the best of it while it lasts.
Wouldn't it be great if Alexa suddenly ran the 1600 in the mid-4:20's? More power to her as well.
If there were several of these young runners competing at a high level it would really elevate all of their performances. Maybe the Mary Cain phenomenon is helping to make each of them aware of their own potential.

She's not necessarily going to run faster in those races if she's dead last by a long ways. Agree she'd likely run faster in a rabbited race that was appropriate to her level, as Cain has had the advantage of.
