Looking at the Oxy results I realized all the below runners run extremely similar times when competing against one another. I didn’t bother to go through ever result to do a comparison but I will list the groupings.
Ben St. Lawrence & Bobby Curtis
St. Lawrence: PR: 5000m – 13:10.08 (2011); 10,000m – 27:24.95 (2011)
Curtis: PR: 5000m – 13:18.97 (2011); 10,000m – 27:24.67 (2011)
These two are hardly ever out of contact of from one another in a race. I believe both PR’d in their 10ks together at the Standford meet and may have been training partners a prior to Bobby moving to Hansons. Example from Oxy is Ben running 13:18 and Bobby running 13:24
Leo Manzano & Lopez Lomong
Manzano PRs: PR: 800m - 1:44.56 (2010); 1,500m - 3:32.37 (2010); mile - 3:50.64 (2010)
Lomong PRs: PR: 800m 1:45.58 (2008); 1,500m 3:32.20 (2010); Mile 3:51.21 (2013);
This rivalry in the 1500 is the best of them all in my opinion. Not only do they have very similar PRs but they also run extremely well in US Champ/Trial races and come through in the clutch. Rojo/Wejo, if possible would you mind looking into their record against one another in the 1500? Example from Oxy is Manzano in 3:37.04 and Lopez 3:37.08. Even dating back to NCAAs these two were never more than a few strides apart with 50 meters to go.
Jack Bolas & Craig Miller
Bolas PRs: 800m – 1:50.38, 1500 – 3:37.64, Mile 3:58.4, 3000m 7:58.85
Miller PRs: 1500m – 3:37.81, Mile- 3:58.98, 3000m – 7:49.94
These two Wisco grads/training partners seem to be back on the same level after Miller separated himself for about 2 years. Take a look as results from college and many of the races that they run in together…almost always within a second of one another. Example from Oxy Bolas 3:38.4 and Miller 3:39.2
Cory Leslie & Jeff See
See PRs: 1500 – 3:35.21; Mile 3:55.24
Leslie PRs: 1500- 3:37.97; Mile 3:56.18
See is a bit older but again ever since See graduated and Leslie came into his own these two go back and forth in the 1500 constantly exchanging who wins between the two of them. Very similar situation to Bolas and Miller. Example from Oxy is See 3:37.5 and Leslie 3:37.9 (they did it from separate heats too.
Nicole Sifuentes/Nicole Edwards & Sarah Brown/Sarah Bowman
Sifuentes PRs: 800 – 2:01.30, 1500- 4:04.6, 3000- 8:56.80, 5000 - 15:27.84
Brown Prs (could only find blog that listed prs): 800 – 2:02, 1500- 4:05, Mile 4:29
Both married now (hence the name changes that have been applied) are oddly. Starting with their Michigan vs. Tennessee relays battles I believe Nicole got the best of Sarah on the anchor the majority of the time. After college these two run in the majority of the same races and also run very very very similar times not most of the time but 99% of the time. Oxy example Sifuentes 4:04.6 and Brown 4:05.2. Also just from memory around early May the two ran 4:33.3 and 4:33.4 at the Medtronic TC 1 mile. No idea who won but they are always together.
What is my point? I find it interesting when one can identify the pattern of runners in races. I believe my Sifuentes and Brown example is my strongest. This pattern seems to stick even with championship races. These people thrive together and die together.
