10 Cent Beer Night.... June 4, 1974

Las Vegas Club in downtown Vegas (on Fremont Street) has 50-cent Hamms on tap. Didn't read your entire post....it was very boring.

hilarious that after that debacle the wikipedia page ends, "the next ten cent beer night ..." You'd think that would've been it.

Disco Demolition Night was also entertaining.

Disco Demolition Night was also my second thought. Also a forfeit. Mike Veeck was the mastermind behind that one.

It was one of the very few games in MLB history that was forfeited.

Since next year is the 40th anniversary of 10 cent beer night, I am considering organizing some kind of road race to commemorate this folly of man.

I have never before seen any footage of that. I recall the Disco Demolition riot at Comisky Park vividly.

It was a bad idea from the start. 10 cent beer night promotion after the week before a Indians/Ranger game with a basebrawl.

All week long the Ranger's Manager Billy Martin was spouting off. The Cleveland fans were drinking whiskey on the train in before the game even started before pounding 10 cent drafts.

It was a zoo. I watched a tv interview of the GM at that time about 10 years ago and he he still stuck that that he that was a good idea.

Oh, the stories about Cleveland sports. I was only 9 then and we lived a couple hours away so we went to one doubleheader every summer. That was like going to Disney Land back then. Cleveland always had one .300 hitter and if they happened to get 2, they would trade one away to keep the payroll low enough so they made money. My grandfather went up Rt 42 to watch the Indians play in the 48 World Series. It took 6 hours to get home instead of the 2 it now takes.

While 10 cent beers brought out 25,134 people, 86,288 packed the stadium for game 5 of the 1948 world series. You can imagine how empty the stadium was most games by the 70s.

Last friday the Indians had Dollar Dog night and 34,000 showed up compared to under 20,000 the night before and night after. The only thing they had to worry about was the fans going into a food coma and falling asleep during the game.

My cherished plastic Cleveland Indians helmet is stowed away somewhere in a closet at my parents house.
