It's the name of my high school girlfriend and eventual wife when I was on my hit TV show Boy Meets World. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danielle_Fishel
Yes, thanks. That's where I read it but it's a strange name, isn't it? Is it a common name in America? What's its origin? And how do you pronounce it? Is it TopANGa, with the stress on the middle syllable? I've never seen your show so I don't know how the name is supposed to sound.

Yes, tho when you pronounce it quickly, it's pronounced kind of like tuh-PANG-guh. Sounds Native American in origin.
It's a city in CA:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topanga,_CaliforniaToe-PANG-a (as in Topanga Canyon), although the "G" also sort of goes with the "a" at the end but if you do not put the G in with the PAN you get than 'pan' as in pots and pans.

THIS ^^
It's more of a canyon road with houses on each side. Really lovely actually, until the wildfire season, and then you're on top of your house hosing it down with water.
It's got a funky hippie vibe to it, like Laurel Canyon of old. The Mermaid hotel/lounge is still there. Remember the old Carly Simon song. Topanga is an indigenous name BTW.
Lots of drug use back in the day in Topanga Canyon. Hippie vibe plus a lot of unusual folks back in the day too. Don't know what it is like these days.
The word, "Topanga" has roots in the ancient Uto-Aztec phrase, "To-pang" which, was derived from what today would translate more or less to, "compression-socks".
Musch Trail in Trippet Ranch is a pretty neat trail.
There is a very old beaten up closed down hotel at the end of Topanga Canyon and PCH. I have wondered for years who owns that land and why haven't they sold it to some developer to build a commercial property or newer hotel. It must be worth a ton. But I bet some artist type dude in the canyon owns it and doesn't need or care for the money.
you mean The Mermaid?

It looks like it is Oasis Imports and Malibu Feed Bin. But I may be thinking of a different spot.
I remember surfing at Topanga and it always was way too crowded and my friends thought it was a great spot but it really was overrated.
A lot of people in Topanga Canyon lived like this in the 1980s.
I remember going to that place and watching a play in elementary school. There was one scene where the actor sported full on wood during the play and all the kids laughed because it was so obvious in the outfit he had.
I also remember running the Topanga 10K. It was about 3 miles of uphill on trails and three miles back down on trails. Fun times. I think it used to be run on Thanksgiving every year.
