Now I love Mary Cain as much as the next guy--I do--but I just saw a video that reminded my of a scene from a great movie. In Chariots of Fire, they follow Harold Abrahams right up until the moment that he succeeds in running the college dash at Cambridge. John Gielgud and another professor watch from the window of their offices, and after the performance one of them comments, "I doubt if there's a faster runner in the land."
Right at that moment, the scene switches to Scotland to show us that, in fact, there is another runner as fast as Abrahams (Eric Liddell).
So lest we forget, in our celebration of all things Mary, that there's another fast runner out there, I present the following solo 800 run in cold weather by another teenage girl:
