Nobody is fooled by this charade - except the NCAA.

She gets special access to all the training equipment and resources she wants. "Alberto" (Nike) pays for all her traveling fees. She is a professional runner.
who gives a sh1t? she definitely doesn't accept money, although i'm sure nike pays for salazar and not cain or her family. the only thing she may be paying for is travel costs. i'm sure alberto gives her shoes, but not through nike officially.
either way, it won't make a difference. i hope she goes to college anyway though, even if she doesnt do NCAA.

The IRS gives a shlt, that's who. AlSal and Nike are investing in "her" [I mean, "their"] future.

Cain lives in New York. She doesn't have regular access to all the training equipment and resources at Nike. You really think Nike or Alberto are paying her travel expenses? Mary's father is an anesthesiologist. The Cain's live in an over $1 million house. The travel expenses are not going to be an issue.
People said this same crap with Rupp. While it is true that Rupp's parents had to pay back some expenses to the NCAA to compete, they had attempted to pay for the correct expenses to maintain his eligibility and had incurred some debt to do this.
I've never understood people coming on here throwing out comments that Cain/Rupp are not paying for her coaching or travel expenses, etc. when they don't know that.
I should bloody hope so.

No, they aren't, since you are allowed to accept payment for travel expenses or keep winnings up to the amount of necessary expenses. You know, just like all the Footlocker participants do...

How are you "sure" about these things?
The Cain family MUST (officially) pay for Salazar and his travel expenses, or Mary loses eligibility (high school and college, I believe) if found out. I'm not going to argue whether there is Nike money "under the table," but I'm very sure that if someone looked there would be checks made out to Salazar with Cain's Dad's signature on them.

I didn't mention that, but you are correct. This same argument comes up with college athletes competing in Europe when everyone assumed they are doing something illegal to travel to European meets and in some cases accept travel expenses.
It's pretty easy to get. You are able to accept expenses directly related to competitions. A plane ticket, a hotel bill, meal money et al.
You are not allowed to take take a photo for a Wheaties Box and go out and by a Prius with it.

Why would they pay for Al's travel to a meet he was already going to and wasn't paying for? What if he had two athletes. They'd both have to pay the full amount?
Who cares? Being a professional didn't make her this fast. She was already fast
Either way she can still run 4:04 in the 1500. Either way she is one of the best in the country as a high school girl.
Honestly when she goes to college all of you guys will be complaining how she has a unfair advantage on the rest of the field.
When the gun goes off it doesn't matter who's coaching her or if she is getting some money to travel to the oxy meet. What matters is if she can perform and quite frankly she is on fire this year.
You don't think Rupp got a huge signing bonus? Come on. People said crap about Rupp because a lot of people knew the "back pay" was a bs cover story. Incurred debt? Go back to watching ESPN.Jeez, so let me guess. Rupp and SaladBar run a clean, non-doping show too? Just some hard work and good old fashioning weight training got that guy to where he is. Nike/Cap/SaladBar are known for doing things the right and honest way too:)quote]bvillebomber wrote:
