2 or 3?
I gotta admit i just came in after meeting up with a former Cornell runner. Checked the thread and saw the results and let a bit of chuckle and thought, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there..."
There were a decent amount of As in the events where it's not critical to get an 'A' - women's 1500, women's 5k, men's 800, but what a dud other than that. How much money could you have made if you bet people there would be zero a's in the men's 5k and 1500 and steeples?
My takeaway from the meet:
Congrats Brandon Johnson and Katie Mackey and Mary Cain.
And Levins. He ran 3:36, a significant pr, and he is supposedly a 10000m man.

Next year people would be saying "wow, great early season results. 30 something guys ran an under 4:00 mile equivalent.
Mary Cain, of course. Mary INSANE.
"A" for the steeple is 8:26, Hughes was 8:25.95 which would be an "A" in the men's steeple. Unless this conversation is strictly new "A"s, in which case Hughes got the A at Stanford a few weeks ago.

The "rest of the world" has significantly more depth, believe it or not.
And far less resources to develop athletes..
We have the athletes , not the coaching ( outside of Salazar )..

AlSal isn't the only one, but your point is well taken. As long as College is the be-all and end-all of our coaching ranks (Pro's are seen as either second-rate or as stealing athletes from deserving College coaches), then far too few of the talented athletes will develop. That Mary Cain is running faster than Hasay did after 4 years of College is a shame (not blaming Oregon per se) and says that a better development system needs to be put into place by USATF. Frankly they too are to blame for this situation as they are a screwed up organization with absolutely no teeth to direct the development of athletes.
Spot on !
College coaches have to win , points are the name of the game that keep them employed.
Options are limited for the athletes and even more so for coaches.
USATF has little or zero knowledge when its comes to direction and leadership to the bigger picture of a development system.
11 A qualifiers in one small American meet is pretty stellar, but it was obviously disappointing for us track fans to see lackluster men's 1500m and 5000m races, considering the fields. And last year's steeple was also much better with Cabral, Jager, and Huling, Jager getting the A despite a fall on the last water jump.
