HOLY SH*******
HOLY SH*******
absolutely incredible, she came from 7th to 3rd in the last 80 meters. 2 one hundreths of a second off the win
Good for her!
During the post-race interview:
"And maybe I can run even faster..." Cheeky little thing! She made me a believer tonight. Dang.
Great for her
But best of all she has yet to be sent out on a pace that gets her to 100 to go with nothing left.
For anyone still thinking Cain should run for a college team:
"HS Phenom Mary Cain's 4:04.62 1500 would be the #2 college time ever."
She should turn pro right now. Nike's getting her for free when she could be earning hundreds of thousands.
The previous best for an American high schooler until this year was 4:14.74. Now she's nearly 10 seconds faster.
Amazing.
Breaks SFH American junior record of 4:09.10
Put this in the "school records that will never fall" category. unless cain lowers it further
Nearly ten seconds better? Redo the math. she is 10 seconds better
Do you really think it will last the year? Does she pull in her horns now and prep for the Trials, she has had a very long season?
It must have been a great finish too. Top 3 were all within 5 one hundredths of a second.
Except for the silly fact that it won't count as a high school federation record due to being against non high school competition.

Why should it? The NFHS records NEVER claim to be the fastest marks by a high schooler. It's just the best marks ever in NFHS sanctioned events. Why should the NFHS be responsible for keeping track of marks in meets is has no involvement with? If someone else, like Track and Field News, wants to compile a comprehensive list of all marks made by high school aged athletes, then they are more than welcome to.
Finally, since it was a 1500, it's not even an event that the NFHS keeps track of.
Here's a question: do you keep track of your high school's records? Would you count a mark made by a kid running unattached in an open meet? Would you count a mark made by a kid not on the school team running on his/her own? Do you scour the summer all-comer meet results just in case one of your athletes posts a record-level mark?

Who wants a High School Federation Record anyways?
It's essentially a useless consolation prize.
I mean honestly, do we have an "American Federation Record" for Americans who set an American Record on American Soil against only American Competition?

If the mark is attained while the runner is in high school, my answer would be yes.
she is just a JUNIOR
The Big Question
does she continue to improve?

So if you were the coach at Springfield High School in Oregon, would you consider Maria Mutola the school record holder in the 800 even though she was never on the high school track team?
she will be a junior until december 31st 2015, meaning she has the rest of this season and then 2 more years to move up the junior ranks.
she is now #18 on the all time junior list at 1500.
also can she be the first girl to break 4 for the 1500 in high school?

That wasn't your original question but if that is the case then my answer would be no.
