Cain ran 4:23 in 2011 at age 15. She's 17 now so 4:22 at age 15 is very good.

To imply that Clay is 15 and Cain is 17 is a bit misleading.
They are almost exactly a year apart in birthtdays (May 3rd vs. May 19). Last year at age 16, Cain ran 4:11 and 2:03. Yes at age 15, Cain in 2010 ran 4:23 but she was barely 15 as that came in June. Last spring, while still 15, Cain split 4:21 in the midst of the mile at Penn Relays.
Clay is good no doubt but remember this. As a freshman in high school, what a month past her 15th bday, Cain split 2:03 in a 4 x 800.
Not sure Clay is the best comparison.
Jessica Judd as a 15 year old ran faster PBs than Bobby Clay at every distance. And her 4:17 1500m was set when she was 15 years and six months while Clay's 4:22 is from four days before her 16th birthday.
UK always have fast junior girls. Loads of em.
Whether the coaches have the skill to develop them into succesful seniors or if they are just good as juniors because they train harder than all the others remains to be seen!
Yeah, I completely agree. Not sure it matters too much what you're doing at 15 years old - there are plenty of crash and burn stories.

I don't think British girls train "harder than all the others". Far from it.
What's your explanation for the fact that GB always seems to produce prodigious female junior athletes that don't often make it as seniors?
What GB lacks that the US has is the mythical 'pro coach' that always seems to turn good but not quite world class college girls into world beaters for a couple of seasons.
no, we have a better version of Mary Cain.....Jess Judd
Isn't the rate of successful junior to senior conversion pretty low everywhere?
Thank you i dont know why so many Americans go on about Mary Cain...When Jess Judd is the big deal!
Dont really care lol wrote:

Jess Judd is a year and a half older than Mary Cain. Might have something to do with it.
They are both big deals. Oxy 1500 tonight at 805 PT could be interesting.
Jess Judd has just run 2:00:37 WL for 800m - Apparently Martinez's run was on oversized track though I'd still consider it superior. Judd and Cain could with Clay etc help turn the tide against the African dominance
Cain turned 15 on May 3, 2011.
In April, 2011, she ran 800 in 2:06.44.
In June, 2011, she ran 1500 in 4:17.84.
Judd's current PRs are better than Cain's. Judd was born on January 7, 1995.

How does she compare to Georgie Clarke at the same age??

Umm. I think what he meant was that the successful Brit girls train harder than the less successful Brit girls, not that they train harder than the ROW girls.
It kind of makes sense - you develop your talent when you're 15 you will be better than someone who doesn't develop their talent at 15.
But it's hardly a guaranteed predictor for later success.
They hammer intervals too much.
Note to everyone still under a rock.... Mary Cain just ran 404 and 2 flat............. Get out of here with the UK nonsense. They ruin female runners anyways. Cain may be the best 17 year old in the world... Forget about UK... She may run 158, 402ish before the year is over. It's only May

cain is amazing.
as for UK ruining female runners, they have had some great ones, kelly holmes, joanne pavey has been at a high level for well over a decade and of course paula radcliffe, and there are others very good.
