( I run the 400m. Im a girl. I currently run a 1:03, which would make me 5th fastest on their team right now. By the end of outdoor in a month, I'm hoping to improve to a 62 at least, I'm really shooting for 1:01.9 though.I just started doing outdoor track this year but I ran cross country for 3seasons. I'm kind of lacking in my speed. But I want to run a 60 flat before I get to tryouts in late October. That would make me third fastest. )
I have 17 weeks to train before tryouts.
Should I use that time to do 17 weeks of base training only (short tempos, hill sprints, 4-5 mile run 1-2x a week)?
or should I break it up into 5 weeks of "base," 4 weeks of early season, 4 weeks of mid season, and 4 weeks of late season? in other words go through a whole season in terms of training periods and just not race?
Also on kind of a side note are my goals reasonable or stupid?
