Seems like any of my friends that get in accidents/close-calls tend to be a few wrenches short of a tool set. Is there any study out there that would collaburate my observations? Personal antecdotes?

Absolutely, poor driving skills equates to lower intelligence.
asian females are some of the worst drivers in the world yet they are also among the smartest (depends on how you define smart, but i am referring to academics) people i know.
i think "aggressiveness" would yield a better correlation than "bad".

A few wrenches short of a tool set? LOL, where do they say that at?
definitely where you learned to incorrectly end sentences with "at"
Hey, that was uncalled for. LRC is so hostile.
no
feynmann used to do calculus while driving
that seems pretty hazardous
his iq was measured at 125 but was much higher
posting bullsh1t on letsrun though is a sign of a low iq
not sayin that applies to you in this case
although it prob does
Some of the worst drivers are highly intelligent. I count myself lucky because I could have been killed twice now riding in the car of two different people running a red light in traffic. They were two of the most intelligent people I have ever met, never make mistakes forward planning thinkers. Having lower intelligence can be a good thing because you are on your toes living in the now most situations instead of zoning out because you think something is too easy for you.

Then why did he only score 125?
Abstract
Intelligence test scores were related to the accident and violation records of a representative sample of 113 young male drivers. Low intelligence drivers were over-involved in intersection accidents and received a disproportionate number of speeding charges. The implications of this finding for a diagnostic-remedial approach to improving driver training are discussed from the viewpoint of both new drivers and persons participating in driver improvement programmes.
I know it is against the Letsrun code to produce actual evidence, but there it is.
Around here the bad drivers are the ones with the iphones.
Bad driving may be related to lower Kinesthetic Intelligence or Spatial Intelligence. In some instances, it may just be related to the driver's visual acuity. Another explanation may relate to cognitive processing and the ability to focus attention given multiple, competing sensory cues.
So to answer your question: yes, no, maybe so.
a lot of less than stellar intelligentsia(stupid) people make lots of money in business for some reason
they see an opportunity and go for it
they don't think about what might go wrong
bill gates for example
You ever seen Stephen Hawking drive?

I almost went with "a few laps short of a 10k." I just make up turns-of-phrases to keep thing interesting.
Perhaps this thread's question is an example of a correlation for the "middle 80%" but when you get into the extremes (10% regions) the association isn't is strong or perhaps even reverses.
How intelligent are NASCAR drivers? Would they be serving fries be it not for their driving prowess?

What does serving fries have to do with anything?

Yes, because Bill gates obviously isn't intelligent?

Do you have any evidence of that? I have a lot of experience with people with lower intelligence and I am pretty certain as a group that they are pretty lousy drivers.

None; that's why I started the sentences with "perhaps." Mr. Obvious, I've noticed that you have trouble keeping up on a few other threads but I certainly think you should keep trying.
With that said, how about: perhaps, a correlation exists for the lower-90% but then the trend weakens in the top-10%..? Just postulatin' here.
