I just got rejected from the St George Marathon. Again. I wouldn't have a chance at winning it (winner will be around 2:20), but my goal at that race would have been sub-6 pace, based on my recent 1:15 half marathon performance. Do I have a right to be irritated by the throngs of 6+ hour walkers that got a spot in that race when I didn't? What about the 2000 people that don't even show up to the starting line on an annual basis, whose spot I'd love to have? I feel that they should have a set of automatic qualifying standards similar to what NYC has to allow runners who put in the work to run moderately fast times to get in. Thoughts?
